How long does the alarm sound before it shuts off?

The alarm sounds for one full minute before shutting off. It starts with shrill chirps, then speeds up till it is beeping like crazy before stopping, so it should wake up most anyone.

Do I need to switch alarm off in the morning and switch it back on before going to bed every day?

You need to switch it off to stop the alarm when it sounds, but you can immediately flip it back on the same morning to reactivate it for the next day. You don't need to flip it off in the AM and then back on in the PM every day.

Does your alarm switch click on and off? mine is completely loose so it can easily go to the wrong position

Because the clock has a soft feel thanks to the rubberized finish, the switch is soft, so it is normal for it to not make a distinct "click" sound when flipped. However, it should still be stiff enough that it does not slip between settings from being shaken or moved.
