Fantastic automatic litter box - Highly recommended!
I've owned two Neakasa M1's since February 1st, 2025 and so far, they have been fantastic! I've learned a lot and found some great discussion on a FB group called Neakasa M1 Support Group. I highly recommend checking it out for tips and tricks. The most helpful tip yet is to purchase a Sterilite 06568012 8 Quart Dishpan to place inside the litter waste bin. I can't say where to get it, but let's just say that the place has a Blue, White and Gold logo with a spark symbol. We have 3 cats, each with their very own personality and each had its own regular litter box. All 3 took to the first M1 without issue. What I did was fill the M1 with 90% new litter and two scoops of old litter from their standard litter boxes. It is my understanding that this helps finicky cats adjust to a new litter box. For our oldest cat, I purchased the Neakasa Step since she needs a little extra help. Since setting up both M1's, we only have to empty the waste bins every 6 days, which is much better than scooping daily. While there are after-market "Compatible" bags available, I have not tried them yet because the Neakasa bags just work. You may find gray colored stickers in the packaging. These are to go around the liner to provide extra sealing from urine potentially getting below the litter mat. I took care not to touch the stickers or liner with my bare hands, but the stickers still failed after about 2 weeks and now one side has completely come off of each litter box. I'm not happy about that, but I have read that Gorilla Tape is a good alternative and much less expensive than the Neakasa replacement strips. I did reach out to Neakasa support to see if they would replace them, since they failed so quickly, but they referred me to purchase the expensive replacements on Amazon, which was a bit frustrating due to the initial cost of these boxes. I would have hoped for a first replacement set to be complimentary within 1 month of ownership.Litter dust is a bit higher with the M1's vs. manually scooping, but I plan on adding a HEPA air filter to reduce it in the area of the litter boxes. The convenience outweighs the concern and slight inconvenience of some additional dust.So while I'd prefer to give the Neakasa M1 only 4 stars, due to the sticker and customer service issue, I feel the nice looks and convenience of the M1 Litter Box outweighs the frustration of having to replace the stickers myself. Perhaps customer service will reach out to make it right. Anyway, I decided to give this 5 stars because it has improved our quality of life and provides entertainment for our one cat that thinks these M1's are an amusement ride LOL!The newer M1 models should have an improved litter mat and may not even need stickers since they have improved how it seals. If you do end up with leakage under the litter mat, just check out the FB support group and search for the Gorilla Tape solution. Just be sure to clean the litter mat and surrounding plastic with rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth to clean and prep the surface to ensure excellent adhesion. For spot cleaning and odor elimination, I recommend cleaning with the Rocco & Roxie Stain and Odor Eliminator available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Rocco-Roxie-Supply-Co-Professional/dp/B00CKFL93K - This stuff really works against cat urine. Just be sure to closely follow the instructions and I do not recommend directly spraying on any of the sensors.

M1 beats my LR easily
Had this since November of 2024, so currently 5 months. I am completely satisfied and I haven't even used the app. I prefer this over my well used but not loved so much Litter Robot 3, which I had for maybe 4-5 years. I prefer this 10x more because my cat prefers it 10x more. The biggest problem with the Litter Robot was it was closed in. My older cat didn't like it, and as he got into his twilight years of 19+ yrs old, he wouldn't go all the way in, he would just put his two front feet in and ended up doing his business on the rubber ledge in front of the opening. He didn't like being in the tight space and having to fiddle around so the $500 Robot became a paper weight until he passed (I went back to a pan litter box and daily scooping for his convenience). My current cat didn't like the Litter Robot for the same reason but would use it because it was there. She would prefer a litter pan if she had the choice. The Neakasa came to the rescue. I probably wouldn't have purchased it if I didn't get it at a great price for Black Friday since I still had the Litter Robot and the M1 isn't cheap. The M1 solved the biggest issue I had with the LR3. As a bonus, the M1 is MUCH easier to clean which I appreciate immensely. The LR and M1 use the same principle for sifting litter with a turning motion, although the M1 does it a little slower because it takes tiny "breaks" while rotating to allow the litter to sift and settle through the process so I am not finding any small clumps remaining after it cycles. My cat did do her business close to the opening for the first couple of months so there was some stuck litter there because she didn't get all the way in, but she has seemed to figure it out and gets all the way in towards the back now. I have to change the bag once every two weeks, literally to the day LOL. They give you LOT of bags in the box to start. You can use regular bags obviously, it isn't designed to force you to use proprietary bags, but they give you so many, I'll just buy more when I do need them. The bags & pan are both pretty shallow so 3 or 5 gallon bags might take some finagling but would work. FYI: it came with two rolls of bags and I'm not even half-way through the first roll.I appreciate the M1 for the open design, deliberate sifting, odor control, and ease of cleaning. If you don't use the app to change any settings, out of the box the M1 will: auto start cleaning after 5mins, and when full will rotate and stay closed so it can't be used until emptied out. The fill line will be hard to see, so use a sharpie to mark the line to make it easier on yourself.
