This train set is so fun to use, not just during the festive period. It assembled really easily and quickly and there is the option of having different track shapes. It's perfect for placing around the base of a Christmas tree.The train can produce steam which is a really cool effect but unfortunately is not really visible. It could do with being a bigger amount released or for there to be a light under it to make it more obvious. It is however a really nice little touch that makes it even more exciting for kids.It had various sounds and moves around the track without a remote. This makes turning it off a little bit challenging. It's also difficult to stop it if it derails, which it does often if not placed perfectly on the track.It looks really festive and has a good level of detail. It feels well made and quite sturdy.Overall, this is a really cool little set that's fun to use and sturdy. I just wish it had a remote to control it.

Tried 3 new packes of batteries. Nothing. Still not working. Why not check before you send it to customers. And no leaflet inside with instructions.

I reviewed a more expensive but similar train set a few months back. At first, I thought they were identical but there are quite a lot of differences. I’d rate this as a budget level set. It’s currently on offer at £39.99, with a 15% off voucher available.This is a good introduction to train sets for younger children but my 5 year old train obsessed grandson isn’t keen because the track is plastic and he only plays with wooden track. The plastic is quite brittle but the steam and noise effects will definitely entertain younger children, although I can’t say that adults will feel the same way. The biggest downside of this set is that it isn’t USB rechargeable. It takes x4 AA batteries, which aren’t supplied, so will be relatively expensive to run. In my opinion, it would be worth paying a bit more initially for a rechargeable set that has more accessories because you’ll end up paying a lot more for batteries over the life of the toy.

The media could not be loaded. It's lightweight and plastic, but fun and whimsical all the same.Powered by four AA batteries, inserted in the bottom of the engine. The control switch is on top, with a choice of sound effects or quieter.A fairly large area is needed for the track layout. We measured 75 x 45 inches (190.5 x 114.3 cm) measuring from the track edges, so a little more for the train movement should be added.I recommend lining up the full train on a straight part of the track before turning on the switch, so you know the wheels are all aligned properly with the track.Also comes with punch out scenery, printed on both sides of glossy heavy card. The sign that goes over the track is also best placed on a straight bit and very evenly spaced, as otherwise the engine will drag it along.There's a little funnel with the bits for securing the track, which I assume is for making steam, though nothing got hot. It's a very basic mechanism, but easy to set-up for that.I will be putting it out on Christmas when the grandchildren come round.
