You can replace a failed Balboa heater: DIY
Need a replacement heater for your spa? You may have a spa or hot tub that incorporates a Balboa heater. Balboa makes quality heaters and other individual components which spa manufacturers incorporate into their complete product. You might have a part number (see the label on the heater) listed as Balboa 58083. You can reorder that entire assembly under that part number. Or, to upgrade, you can order Balboa 55624. This is a titanium based heater for a longer service life than the 58083 unit. This heater is the titanium based heater guts that fits within BOTH of the above part numbers. In my case, our rural Lake cabin is over 100 miles from our nearest spa dealer...and during Covid I shipped in an off-brand unit that they do not service as they had a ONE YEAR WAIT LIST for a spa! So, I took a chance and ordered one and YES it works and installed it myself. I had a defective heater #58083, but ordered this unit and installed it myself and YES, I now have the equivalent of a 55624. Or so I hope. This heater unit comes with new gaskets and an instruction sheet, which the Amazon description does not mention. Taking apart the spa was a bit scary, but working carefully and focused on safely, I was able to R&R the prior unit with this part. Never having worked on a spa before, I held my breath in turning the power back on. However, it worked and I apparently avoided several bad things that the instructions advise can ruin the unit.Good luck with your unit but YES, I would order this heating element again and save considerable time and money .

Good Heater Element
Good price, fast shipping, and appears to be well made. Installation was easy and is working well. The real test of how good this heater element is on how long it last? I purchased a different heater element from a different supplier and lasted less than a year before it failed.

Turned out my old element was still good, (bad connection) but installed this anyway since it was all apart works good.

Cheaper than a whole new heater
See the other dude’s review for part numbers, he is spot on. Changing out the heating element was way cheaper than a whole new heater ($230). It’s a pretty easy swap. Be prepared to loose a lot of water if you don’t drain your spa first. Those plastic valves in spas leak by A LOT! It even comes with instructions if you’re in to that kind of stuff.

Failed after 7 months
This element is almost an exact replacement for our Balboa heater. It was easy to install and fit perfectly in the heater housing. It quickly brought the water in our spa back up to and has maintained the desired temperature.UPDATE Nov 19, 2024The heating element worked well up to this week when I noticed a 5 degree drop in temperature. It turns out that temperature is being maintained by the heat of the now constantly running pump. A quick electrical test at the element's terminals shows 0 ohms which means that it has burnt out. It only lasted 7 months so I am dropping my rating to 2 stars for that reason.
