This is a really good carving set. The spoon knife was excellent and cut thru the basswood with ease. It retained its sharpness throughout process and was easily sharpened after the project was finished. The only negative was the included book. It is close to a waste paper. Highly recommend all Flex Cut knives.

Well worth the money. unfortunate they dont come with the strope. but I carved 4 spoons before i ever showed care for the knife and they were better still better than the beaver craft out the box.

I bought a starter kit and wanted to upgrade. The flexcut spoon carving kit is a good quality carbon steel , it holds an edge and feel good in my hand.I recommend flexcut carving tools.

Very sharp out of the box

I got this knife set for Christmas and I am very impressed with it. I was a little surprised at how thick the blade of the stub sloyd was, but the edge is razor sharp and cuts through basswood like butter. It also handles oak (small oak bison above), walnut, and maple with no problem. It's good for taking off large chunks before you get started on finer details. The hook knife is also very sharp although I haven't done as much with it yet. The handles are beautiful and fit well in my palm. These are good quality knives that I can see lasting me years.I did not receive a step-by-step instructions for spoon carving with mine, but there is a rebate to mail in if you buy their hook strop or hook hone. It's honestly easy enough to find how to carve a spoon that it didn't bother me.
