The ones I received did not come with instruction. I research them online and downloaded instructions from a different site.

Yes, that is where I mounted mine. I would recommend researching the size you need for the write of the lid.

No, they are not strong enough and have no way to lock them in place for safety.

What is the minimum recommended lid weight per support?

There really is no minimum weight, but the supports are rated for a maximum weight capacity. Depending on which model you have or want to use for your project. The supports are rated for inch pounds of torque. So, you will need to determine the requirements by measuring your lid front to back and then multiplying 1/2 of that measurement by the weight of the lid. That will tell you how strong of a support you need.
