Great Alternative to the HJ-112
I've been a real advocate of the Omrom HJ-112 for years. Absolutely loved my old HJ-112... Unfortunately I got careless and accidently left it clipped to my pants and ran them through the washing machine... So I decided to get a new pedometer. I was intrigued by this new model and decided to give it a try. I really like it. It has some improvements over the HJ-112 and it's less expensive to boot! Briefly here are the differences: 1) It's smaller in circumference, but slightly thicker. 2) It has a different paint job. 3) There's one less button, the reset function has been removed, which I rarely used on my old pedometer. 4) The real improvement is that while the HJ-112 stored your KCal burned, total steps, aerobic steps, and total miles for 7 days it did not save your aerobic minutes. They were only visible for the current day. The HJ-113 stores aerobic minutes as well as all the others for 7 days. This was a great improvement for me. I like to log my aerobic distance as well as time. It helps me to calculate walking speed, a component of my program I'm trying to improve. 5) They've also included a fat gram burned on the KCal display. Frankly it's just the KCal divided by 9. I doesn't add anything for me, but it might help motivate someone else.So overall I think this model is fantastic; it offers all the benefits of the HJ-112 (I find it's every bit as accurate, etc) and it has a few added benefits of its own. Namely: it's slightly smaller, it stores your aerobic times as well as distance for 7 days, it calculates fat grams burned, and it's cheaper! FYI: mine came with battery, so that's not how they're trying to save $. I got mine via Amazon/J&R and even with the nominal amount of shipping ($2) it was still less expensive than the HJ-112. I heartily recommend it, it's a great motivational tool. Also contrary to info in other reviews this is not a European model; all the distances are in miles, weight input is in lbs, stride is in inches, ect.

Omron is a Classic!
Kudos to Omron for making such great pedometers! This is my 3rd Omron Pedometer (I lost one on vacation & threw the other one in the washer by mistake - didn't work after that but was very clean!). This is also the 3rd different version of Omrom I've had (the first was similar to this but different color, the second was a version that lets you keep track of your steps, etc., on the pc. The reason I didn't get that one again is that I don't think the battery lasted as long & I felt it was more than I needed or wanted to do).The first pedometer I had was given to me, so when I needed to buy another one, I first checked prices at various sites & found I got the best deal at Amazon! That's why #2 & #3 were both purchased at Amazon.com.All three versions that I have owned were similar in looks & ease of use. It is very simple to set up - set the time (remember to check for am/pm before setting hour), your weight & step length. Instructions included are very clear. Then clip it on & start walking - the pedometer tells you the number of steps, aerobic steps you've taken, the calories burned & the miles walked. You set it up & forget about it. Works great - you can clip it to your waist or put in your pocket so that it's less visible - which I like. I also like the black color of this one. I've been using the omron pedometers for about 3 years now & can't image using another type or brand. My friend liked mine so much I got one for her too.

Very accurate
I have never had a pedometer I could program correctly. They have always been way off, even after multiple attempts of programming. This pedometer got it right on the first try. At first it seemed to be a bit jumpy so I programmed my stride one more inch but that wasn't correct for me. I went back to my original stride length and it's working great. I'm amazed how accurate it is, even when I tested clipping it to my purse. The set button is mildly annoying. It's very small and hard to push but I guess that's so the info doesn't accidently get reprogrammed for whatever reason. And just be mindful when wearing it that it's clipped securely. The first day I wore it, it fell off twice in my vehicle when I was getting out. Luckily it was on or around my seat when I realized it was missing. I didn't have it all that secure so that was my fault. It does seem like the grip isn't as tight as it could be though. All in all, it does what it claims and is by far the best pedometer I ever owned.UPDATE: After only wearing this a handful of times, I lost it the other day. It was clipped to my pants and sometime during my house cleaning, it came off. I haven't found it yet but do know that fortunately I at least lost it in my house. Hopefully not in the trash or burn pile. At any rate, I have to say the clip really needs improving. A good clip should obviously stay secured and this just wasn't tight enough. If I find it, I will have to figure out how to make sure it does not keep falling off.
