No, paper towel roll slides right over it.

Q: Can the arm be unscrewed from the base? Another reviewer mentioned that you can unscrew it but mine does not look like that is possible.

Yes, the arm is easily unscrewed from the base. Hold the base firmly and screw the arm off by taking hold of the extreme end of the bar (the part that does not ratchet). Unscrew counterclockwise until the arm comes free. That is all there is to it.

Q: why is it so short? Paper towel rolls are 11" wide. It looks funny

The mounting side is the shorter side. The holder arm length is long enough.

Q: Is there a replacement adhesive I can get? I need to reposition my towel roll holder.

The adhesive didn't hold for me but 2 sided gorilla tape is my go to.
