Will this work with slc 500 processor?

Any null modem cable with at least simple handshaking (TX/RX crossed) will work with the SLC 500 and ML1400 over DF-1 protocol. Go shielded if you can. (I'm an Industrial Electrician who's worked with both of these PLCs.)

Is this a crossover cable or straight thru?

Your question is more inline with a Cat-5 cable, not a null modem cable.

You didn't answer the question on handshaking. Does it support full handshaking, partial handshaking, loopback handshaking or no hardware handshaking?

We apologize if we missed part of a previous question. The SCNM9FF is a simple Null Modem cable with all 9-pins connected through the cable. While it doesn't actively participate in handshaking of any kind due to there not being a chip in the cable, as long as both of your devices support the same protocols there should be no problems using whatever hand-shaking you need.
