Freestyle STEP Deluxe Dumbbell

I was looking for a set that allowed me to do "Body Pump" style workouts at home (for myself and my teen daughter) and this set is VERY similar to the sets I used at my gym. The lightweight bar comes in 3 parts (for easier storage/shipping) that screw together with 2 clips to secure plates on each end. This set comes with a total of 4 pairs (8 total) of sand filled plates, with each pair a different weight (2.75lb, 5.5lb, 8.25lb & 11lb) for a total of 55lb. I have been using this set for about a month a it meets my needs perfectly. Of note is when the set arrived, one of the plates was missing. The package came with a number to call if something was missing or broken (rather than return to Amazon). Due to COVID, there was a slight delay in obtaining the missing plate, but after following up with the company, the missing plate arrived and I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I do own Olympic weights (the metal ones) and purchased this because they are quieter when I lift while my children are sleeping. I did read some reviews that worried that the plates are sand-filled, but the plastic appears sturdy enough that the set will last for many years of regular/daily use. If you are looking for a weight set and don't lift more than 55lb, this set is for you. Again, this is the perfect "Body-Pump" set for home.

I purchased this set right before the quarantine began, and boy am I glad I did! This is the perfect barbell to add to a small at home gym. It’s obviously not your standard barbell size, but it does the job. It’s very easy to put together and switch out the plates. I use this for back rows, squats, deadlifts, you name it. Although 60 pounds may not be a lot to some, it’s still way better than nothing at all. And since I don’t have a rack, I can at least throw the loaded bar on my back with minimal issue. The bar screws together in 2 places and sometimes comes loose. Just make sure it’s nice and tight a couple times throughout your workout and you’ll be fine! I don’t have any issues in doing this between some sets, but I noticed other reviewers don’t like it, so just a heads up.

The bar loosens at least with every other use of not every use. The weights are accurate as far as the weight they are supposed to be. This is not bad for a first buy but there is better out there.

First, a note: This bar (rated for a max of 100 pounds) and weight set is best suited for fitness routines which focus on endurance like Group Power or Body Pump – multiple reps of different exercises for 4-5 minutes straight over the course of 30 minutes to a full hour. If your preference is to lift seriously heavier weights with fewer reps, this is not the set for you. Now for my review. After participating in group fitness classes for a few years, I decided to get certified to teach a power class using the bar with adjustable weights. In order to consistently train and learn releases without having to go to the gym, I wanted a set of weights I could use at home. I chose this set because it closely matched what our gym has for group fitness classes – from the variety of weights to the weight of the bar itself (Olympic bars are heavier). This set is near-perfect for what I wanted! The coated finish on the bar makes for a better grip when your hands are sweaty. So far, no flaking of the coating like I see with metallic finish bars, and I think this bar is easier on my hands than the smooth metallic bars. I was initially a bit skeptical of only having one set of large (11kg) plates, but the addition of the medium (8.25kg) plates allows for additional pair-ups which you don’t get with a set of 10, 5 and 2.5 pound weights. I can usually figure out a combo which allows for a heavier bar while freeing up a smaller set of weights for plate work. Aficionados always have the option of getting more weights – I managed to obtain a set of alternate group fitness weights from my gym when they upgraded their equipment, and they are compatible. The only minor negative I have is that with the bar coming in 3 pieces, there is a tendency for it to come unscrewed. The threads are deep enough to where it won’t come apart in the middle of a workout, so it’s not a concern nor a danger if you retighten. It’s just an annoyance to feel the bar loose for anyone with a touch of OCD like me. A bit of Threadlock applied every so often takes care of the issue. I’d only drop my rating by a half-star for this annoyance if we could rate with half-stars. The final thing to keep in mind that this bar has a smaller diameter than the center holes in Olympic style weight plates. Finding spare Olympic plates at yard sales or second hand stores will give you extra plates for free-hand work, but they won’t be compatible with the bar.

This review is for people like me who have been looking for the right Les Mills equipment without paying those Les Mills prices. I love Les Mills and do nearly every workout they offer, but I could never justify spending so much money on their equipment, even though I've used it at a live event and recognize that it is truly special and superior. I don't know how it took me so long to find this option, but I am so glad that I did. If you do Pump or any of the other strength-based Les Mills workouts, this is the best alternative available. The quality is high, and you can change the resistance quickly as often required in the LM workouts. I have to say, since purchasing these, I'm even more excited to workout. That's how much of a game-changer these have been. Some notes: *While the weight-plate design lends itself to easy handling for rows and overhead presses, I have found it difficult to find a comfortable grip for curls and any plate-centric chest maneuver. *I love that this set comes with four different weight levels - that's better than most on offer. I wish this company made a plate between the 11.5 and 22 they offer, as I would like that for some individual plate work. But, I do plan to order the 22-lb plates directly from the company (wish they offered them through Amazon). *I've had this set for about six weeks. It arrived quickly, in perfect condition, and because the bar comes apart, I am able to store it all very easily near my little workout area in the apartment. Again, this is the best alternative to the official Les Mills equipment. Yes, I had the chance to use LM equipment at a live event and it is amazing (especially having that centrally placed grip for plate work)! But I am in love with this equipment and am so grateful to have found it before making another wrong-headed purchase. Highly recommend.

Perfect for BodyPump! Which I think almost everyone else has referenced...lol Easy to assemble and use. I might look for lock-tight because I did need to tighten the bar after a couple uses. I use it with LesMills OnDemand, so I can pause the video and adjust weights as needed. The clip seems pretty sturdy (so far). My only complaints are that: 1. The weights spin a little during the "Clean and Press," but it's not a huge deal. 2. the plate shape makes holding the plates for some plate moves a little tricky, but again it's not the end of the world. All in all, would definitely recommend. It gets the job done and you can't beat the price compared to the official gear! woof.

The bar comes in 3 pieces - 2 end pieces and one center piece. One of the end pieces would not screw on. I tried the end piece on both ends of the center piece with no luck. The other end piece screwed on with no problem. When I opened the box there was a slip of paper that said to call an 800 number if there was any issue with the product. It was a Thursday night when I opened the box but I called and left a message. I didn't have high hopes for a return call. I got a call back on Friday morning! The woman I spoke with apologized for the inconvenience, confirmed what part needed replacing, took down my address and said they would ship the replacement out. I got the replacement on Monday! And the replacement piece was perfect. I couldn't be more pleased with their customer service and fast response to fix the issue. Totally worth it!

I bought this weight set during the pandemic to continue my exercise routine and was much more affordable than other alternatives (and was actually in stock when others weren't!). It is sufficient for taking Body Pump classes if that is your main focus. The weights are filled with sand and the box arrived completely damaged. The plates were scratched up upon arrival and I weighed each one on a scale and they were off. However, I held on to them because it does what it needs to for body pump class and you can layer on weights as your fitness improves.

I bought it to follow lesmills body pump. It's as expected. I've been using it once or twice a week for classes at home for about a month now and have no complaints so far. I mostly use all but the heaviest weights on the barbell and the heaviest weights I use as individual weights.

This set has met my expectations and then some. Took a while to get to me, but when it arrived, it was well packaged and intact. The quality is really good and suits my needs perfectly. I have used it for a little over two months now for LesMills Pump and Grit. The bar and the clippers hold the weights well and safe. A bonus is that after your work out, they do not take an awful amount of space. I tuck them neatly into my closet you hardly know they are there. Definitely worth every penny. Will be nice to know if I could buy plates separately as in due course I will need a heavier bar.

Este producto me gustó por qué no era tan caro como el otro set que era el que quería. Cumple bien su función y tiene más peso que el otro. Llego a tiempo y bien. Su sistema de cambio de pesas no es el mejor (te tardas un poco) a comparación del otro set que se hace muy fácil pero por el precio que es casi del doble pues ni modo, me tardo un poco más y ya está.

Excellent set of weights. Exactly like the barbell set at GoodLife. Purchased for Les Mills Body Pump classes online. Really like the versatility and options of the plates and the clips slide on easily! Makes working out at home more challenging and fun.

Great for bodypump Bar is textured unlike at the gym. Wish it was smooth because it's going to rough up and ruin my clothes
