This elegant coffee latte cup set including a fine porcelain plate and a spoon features the Austrian Vienna Secessionist artist Gustav Klimt’s masterpiece “portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I” (1903-7) produced by the German company Goebel established in 1880 and dedicated to making high-quality luxury porcelain, glass and similar material objects aiming to bridge fine craftsmanship and timeless art masterpieces. Klimt’s work “Portrait Adele Bloch-Bauer I” was commissioned by Adele’s husband the well-known banker and sugar producer Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer. During Austria’s Anschluss Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer fled Austria, leaving behind his belongings and his large art collection, and within them “the woman in gold.” The painting was stolen by the Nazis and displayed at the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere. In 2006 the Bloch-Bauer heirs were able to recover the painting and later sold it to the businessman Ronald Lauder, co-founder of the New York Neue Gallerie, were the painting currently resides. This latte cup is part of our Gustav Klimt collection.
