A Review of Reviews... This AP is not for everyone!
I have purchase countless Ubiquiti products since their launch in 2005. I do give this product 5 stars even though I have a bit of negative feedback in this review. The negative feedback is not for the product or the seller... but to some of the reviewers. For those that are just scanning feed backs before purchasing... if you are someone that has never used Ubiquiti products before, or have no understanding of network infrastructure, or evidently like some reviewers here have no concept of what the word "Enterprise" means, just move on to another product. If you are looking to simply add WiFi to your home and have no clue what you're doing, you should either visit a retail store and talk with someone there about a home access point or wireless router (there is a difference) or look in to Ubiquiti's wireless home routers(AirRouter). Those types of devices have a simplified setup process for home users. If you are looking to get an extremely powerful AP and would like to use advanced features such as seeing the amount of data your devices on your wireless network are using, kick/block certain devices from accessing the internet, restrict how much data devices can use, manage multiple APs with software running on a single machine, and much, much more... this is a great AP for that. This is an Enterprise solution, meaning it is designed for larger network infrastructures in mind. It can be used in a home based network but know that you need to install software on a machine and configure this AP.BEFORE YOU BUY:Look at large number of positive reviews and notice that many of the people that are using them are in a business environment and quite possibly IT personnel:Commercial grade - more power than a Cisco 1040Commercial WiFi done cheap and wellEnterprise level wifi at consumer level price!Look at the very small number of negative reviews and notice that many of them have no clue what this device was designed for or how to utilize such a product:I can't put it to work!Don't buy Ubiquiti APs - Being forced to use a config software without a standard web config is a deal-breaker (just like Apple APs)I love it when people generalize/stereotype... Don't buy Ubiquiti because it uses a software config instead of a standard web config? Really? Have you looked at any other products by Ubiquiti? This is one of the only ones that even have a software config and it does for a reason... (ENTERPRISE!!!)LAST NOTE:If you decide to purchase this product for your home and you spend the time to learn how to utilize this device, I am sure that you will find that Ubiquiti product are a superior product. It is the reason they are one of the world's leaders in wireless networking. They actually have wireless antennas that can connect networks over 50km away!If you decide to purchase this product and you do NOT spend the time to learn how to utilize it... please seek assistance, do NOT post your incompetency here and try to throw dirt on a good name for the rest of us to have to read.

Excellent Access Point - Works as described.
I recently tried to extend my WiFi range at home. My first attempt failed. I had used a WiFi repeater that takes the wireless signal and boosts it up. The device I used had only about a 35' range. I returned it and decided to do some deeper research. I found many internet articles saying that trying to boost the wireless signal by taking that already weak wireless and processing it again was a bad way to accomplish the overall goal. I have to admit the ability to just plug in a little box and you were done was nice and easy and if I had a small house that just needed a little help it probably would have been the solution. In my case I wanted coverage outside. My previous setup used 2 Belkin routers set up as access points which worked well but were only wireless G and they were failing after a long time of use. My research all pointed me in the same direction. The wired access point was the way to go. For me this was easy as I already had the wires run to the locations I wanted them. With that I decided to purchase the UniFi Long Range AP.The first thing that surprised me was the size when I received it. Yes, I realize the dimensions are listed but wasn't a spec I focused on. They looked like small smoke detectors but they are more like a small dinner plate. Not a problem just an observation. My first task was finding the correct wire back at the main router. I love the fact that the AP gets it's power through the Cat5 cable. This will enable me to easily ceiling mount it and not have to worry about finding a power source in the attic. You will need to know which cable goes to it. No problem if you are running a new line. In my case it was one of 15 Cat5 cables coming to a 16 port switch. To id the cable quickly I noted which channels had no activity lights and then connected my laptop to the wire where I intended to connect the AP. I returned to the switch and found the channel that was now lit up and connected that wire to the power injector from the AP and reconnected to the switch.I now plugged the other end into the AP and the nice ring of light illuminated letting me know it was working. Setting it up was easy using the built in GUI. The only negative I would say is that I get a security warning from my browser when I connect to it. I could not find a solution to this but have not contacted their tech support either. Once in the configuration was very easy. Now that it connected after feeding in all the appropriate passwords I set out to test the range. I was immediately impressed. At 35' outside through a wall I had nearly a full strength signal and all the way at the back of my property at 80' away I still had a solid signal about half way on my strength meter between 2 and 3 bars. I now have no dead zones. We spend a lot of time outdoors and use Wifi to control music and lights so this has solved any problem areas. I would absolutely recommend this product. Compared to some of the choices out there the price is also very reasonable. I found no need to connect a second unit as I previously had since the coverage is excellent.
