Evolution: The Grand Experiment: The Quest for an Answer Illustrated Edition

Dr. Carl Werner has done us a huge favor in writing this book. You learn a lot from it really. There is so much basic information here that people should be aware of in the Evolution debate. His references are very helpful and his writing is pretty clear. He really does do a grand experiment and even has a discussion with leading scientists to get their personal take on their areas of expertise.For example, on the discussion on one of the supposed ancestors of whales, Rodhocetus, throughout evolution he interviews the discoverer of the Rodhocetus fossil, Phil Gingerich, to see if he himself believed that this was an ancestor of whales like most macroevolutionists believe and he said no. The tail and legs are missing and yet museums still draw in a tail that resembles that of a whale when there is no evidence at all for assuming their tails to be similar to a modern whale's tail.Also he interviews Dr. John Long, who has written wonderful evolutionary works like "The Rise of Fishes: 500 Million Years of Evolution" on prehistorical fish and is definitely an authority on ancient prehistoric fish. Dr. Long admits to there being lots of "mystery" to the rise of fishes when Werner asks some important but tough questions on the evolution of fishes. This is very revealing and enlightening.I personally am amazed at how he interviews more non-creationists than creationists and gets some strange answers to some tough questions on macroevolution from macroevolutionists.Very well balanced book and lots and lots of pictures from museums all around the world. Also he does do a few experiments that even you can try at home such as spontaneous generation, which in the end, does not happen at all. In this sense this book is a bit interactive with it's readers. There is also a bit of detailed discussions on living fossils, evolution of dinosaurs, and other good things.There is also a DVD set going to come out at some point and also another volume specifically on Living Fossils  Evolution: The Grand Experiment: Vol. 2 - Living Fossils .A Living fossil is just a creature that lived in the distant past and has not evolved much at all (in terms of macro speciation) and is found alive today. Coelacanths are one example of living fossils what did not evolve during their 300 million years (from the Devonian Period) or so of existing even though biologists like Richard Dawkins believe that humans ultimately evolved from them. Read Dawkins' "The Ancestor's Tale: A Pilgrimage to the Dawn of Evolution" to see what I mean. Also take a look at Lamarck's historical work on evolution via acquired characteristics due to environment changes, it has a ring of truth for many who believe all species macro evolved and is still prevalent today believe it or not (through concepts like "memes" and also when people talk teleologically on why certain attributes evolved or when they talk about "benefits" of evolutionary change) and God or purposeful mind was in the picture in Lamarck's evolutionary theory: "Zoological Philosophy, An Exposition with Regard to the Natural History of Animals" and also look at Alfred Russel Wallace's (the "co-discoverer" of "natural selection" with Darwin) "Contributions to the Theory of Natural Selection: A Series of Essays".Overall, Bravo for Carl Werner! He truly is an honest seeker of truth and a well organized scientist too. This book deserves to get a wide audience.Micro and macro evolutionists (e.g. general "evolutionists" including "creation evolutionists") and micro evolutionists (all "creationists". Yes everyone believes at least in micro evolution [how do you get the varieties of humans i.e. Latinos, Africans, Middle Easterners, Asians and Caucasians from one couple? Or even varieties of finches?]) should read this book and question their beliefs to see it their view of origins of and evolution of life are plausible and warranted by natural evidence and nature alone."Read against the grain"An interesting book which documents the evolution caused by intelligent agency (aka conscious selection or artificial selection) is  Domesticated: Evolution in a Man-Made World . The situation for the emergence or generation of species is complex.For information on the new evolutionary theory that is going to go beyond Darwin's purposed mechanism and how molecular data has challenged the Wallace-Darwinian gradual evolution by interviews with molecular evolutionary biologists and astrobiologists that feel the need to propose a newer evolutionary synthesis, please read  The Altenberg 16: An Exposé of the Evolution Industry  and  Evolution - the Extended Synthesis .And also look at the reassessment of the status of evolutionary theory in light of information from the genomic data which show incredible sophistication in the categories of living creatures (Koonin, Eugene V. 2009. "Darwinian Evolution in the Light of Genomics". Nucleic Acids Research. 2009. 37(4): 1011-1034 ; Koonin, Eugene V. 2009. "The Origin at 150: Is a New Evolutionary Synthesis in Sight?". This is the best presentation of evolution I have ever read. It is a layman-level work but the concepts it deals with will challenge even the most dedicated evolutionist. This book presents arguments from supporters and detractors of evolution in a way I feel is as unbiased as the topic can be. It has wonderful photographs. The book is brilliantly organized amd is seriously a joy to read. The book presents both sides and concludes each section by asking the reader what they think. This book is an indispensable tool for anyone wanting to get a fair look at the evolutionary debate. Dr. Werner has written an amazing work. The quality is superb. The book quality is top-notch and is a steal for this price. However, the true value of this book is its information content. Unique, challenging, inspired, fair, and objective; this is a book that deserves a place on your bookshelf. You will keep going back to it. Jesus Christ is Lord!

This is an outstanding book, I have read it twice from cover to cover, it is a treasure of information and the outcome of more than 15 years of researches, studies, interviews, travels and very hard work.What Dr, Werner and his wife did will be a mile stone in studies related to evolution, it is a nightmare for Darwin's theory supporters.The book is outstanding not only because of the information it includes, but also because of the very nice writing style and very professional photos which support each and every piece of information.I can't wait to see the next book of this series which will be released early next year and which will cover the subject of human evolution.

This book was given to me as a gift, and I had just intended to skim through it and put it aside to read when I had more time. Once I picked it up, however, I couldn't put it down! The pictures are captivating, and Dr. Werner presents the scientific facts very clearly and in an easy-to-read format. The layout is very appealing, and the pictures are relevant to the text.I would highly recommend this book to homeschoolers of 6th through 12th graders. I know homeschoolers often delay teaching evolution, but this book is perfect for helping your child understand what information is being presented in favor of evolution and how to refute that information with scientific facts supporting creationism. I understand there is a teacher's manual available although I haven't reviewed it.

It's very well done. It is easy to read and full of information. The pictures make the ideas easy to understand.This book shows you what is the reality about the theory of evolution. After reading this book, you will realize the theory of evolution is not as full of evidences as you think. In fact, the ancestor fossils of animals are still missing. You will realize that macro-evolution is simply chance mutation + natural selection and there is no such thing as adaptation. You will realize the evolutionist theory that life came from non-life has been proven false. Also, you will realize evolution cannot explain the origin of life, etc.

Once I started reading Dr. Carl Werner's book, I could not put it down. I have a BS in Zoology from Brigham Young University but had never heard these scientific arguments against Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. He made it easy to visualize and understand major scientific weaknesses in the commonly accepted theory. I am a member of our large local school district board of education and was so impressed that I requested the book be reviewed for inclusion as an optional textbook in our district's science teaching program. This book is also ideal for use by parents who want to help their children understand the scientific flaws in the theory of evolution.

I often heard of the strong evidence for whale evolution but when I saw the 4 so called transitional creatures depicted in the book, it made me laugh. First of all, none of them are whales, and who is to say they evolved one into the other?? Author says there are 200 million fossils found over 150 years and no transitional's have been found. All the dinosaurs have no missing links found. He talks about similarities as a bad proof for evolution.It's a careful, studied look at the motor's of evolution and why they cannot be the motors of evolution. It's profusely illustrated and well written. The actual evidence for evolution is very weak and the fraud in the discoveries is very high. Evolution need a Hollywood story line because the evidence is so weak.It's a shame more people are not more skeptical of the imaginary story line of evolution. Dr Werner made a brilliant study from material's found in museums and in the field. The photography is excellent and his points well made !

Great stuff, good photos and examples exposing the idiocy of current Evolutionary theory.

This book display many problem on the theory on evolution which every person need to know. Just be sincere and you will see that evolution just doesn't make sense.
