Called Kopi Luwak the price can run as high as $300 a pound. A luwak is actually a small civit-like mammal that lives in trees. One of their favorite foods is the red, ripe coffee cherry. The luwaks eat the cherries, bean and all. While in the luwak's stomach the bean ferments, finishes it journey through the digestive system then exits. The still intact beans are collected from the forest floor, clean then roasted and ground like other coffees. The resulting coffee has a rich, heavy flavor with hints of caramel and chocolate.
