I always use these mats to contain the soil and water in my hanging plants. Works great even when watering them.

I use these fabric self-watering inserts inside my outdoor hanging planters, and they’ve made a big difference. I bury them in the soil, and they hold moisture well without adding bulk or weight—which is key when you’re working with hanging baskets. The fabric material is breathable and flexible, but still sturdy. It fits neatly inside a 10” pot and stays put once covered. Even in direct sun, my herbs and flowers stay moist for days, and I’m watering much less often. I haven’t had any issues with soggy soil or root rot—the slow release from the insert seems to keep everything evenly damp without overdoing it. These are fine water observing pads. I’m not sure why I thought they were waterproof on one side so buyer beware it was probably my error, But they are absolutely not waterproof so if you’re looking to place them in a hanging basket, water will pour through..

I have absolutely no idea why this works but they are absolutely phenomenal!! I love plants so much but I live in Louisiana and between my work schedule and the heat my plants suffer, or worse. I put two clothes in each hanging basket; worked like a charm!! We have had hot temperatures and lots of wind but my plants haven’t needed water in seven days or more!!

I use these in the plants I have in pots at cemeteries. Works well to keep flowers alive if I cant get there right away to water them.

It does absorb water, but I wanted the kind of mats that contain the absorbent gel crystals. This is not that. If all you want is felt, this is fine.
