Item does not work!!
Item looks like the OEM but it doesn't perform like it. The nut enclosed in the part is supposed to move up and down when you tap it on the ground to release more line but the nut does NOT move up and down and therefore my trimmer line can not advance. Bad design and evidently not tested by manufacturer. Wasted my money buying two of these. Went to dealer and bought a new one and it works perfectly.

Good fit
This worked with my Skil FS 38 trimmer as long as you don't tighten it all the way. I have used it several times without issues. I tightened it to the point where it still allowed the bump head to move up and down to allow the line to advance.

It works after forcing it
If I had another purchasing option, I'd give this Stens product a lower score. Apparently, Stihl no longer makes or sells this bump knob. Purchasing an off-brand bump knob is the only option and Stens seems to be the only off-brand choice. My Stihl trimmer is 10 years old. The original Stihl bump knob lasted 8 years. Two years ago, when a replacement was needed, I ordered a Stens brand bump knob and was happy with the performance. I was not happy that is lasted only two years. I recently ordered another Stens bump knob. This new bump knob did not install easily and would not advance the trimmer string. The internal clip that holds the nut in place on the Stens bump knob creates a very tight fit, preventing the bump knob from sliding up and down an internal shaft. This sliding action in necessary to advance the trimmer string. Only after forcing the clip onto the shaft did the bump knob begin to slide. This frustration would have been enough for me to return the part back to Stens, but I don't have another purchasing option. I will reluctantly make this Stens product work...and do it again in two years when it prematurely wears out.

Does not fit this type of trimmer head FS40
The knobs look good but do not fit the Stihl FS40 with this type of trimmer head. The nut does fit but is too deep and does nut catch any threads. With another trimmer head would be ok as even if it did screw in it is so deep that it would not bump at all. Before buying check your trimmer head as quality of knob seem good.
