Very useful, easy to follow recipes
As a mom of kids with food allergies and intolerances, I already knew a lot about going gluten free (or so I thought). That said, I WISH I'd had this book when I first started my journey. It would have saved me from making some baking mistakes (like measuring flour....who knew I was doing it wrong all these years??) and also would have given me tips on dealing with critical family members (too many awkward moments to count).What I love about it: It's in plain English, gives simple, down-to-earth advice, and step by step, easy to follow recipes. Perhaps the part that sticks with me most is the author's encouragement to find my "deepest why". This is HUGE. Everyone who goes gf needs to have a specific, compelling reason to do so. It really does increase your chances for success.Recipe test: We made Cinnamon Apple Scones (which is egg- and gluten-free), and wow, my kids loved it. They turned out a beautiful caramel brown, crispy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside. My husband thought it was just the right amount of sweetness; the kids said it could be made a little sweeter (surprise). It's a great staple recipe - I'll be trying the chocolate chip and blueberry variations soon.(Notes: The apple scones recipe calls for a food processor, which I don't have, but I easy "cut in" the butter by hand using a mixer attachment, or you could use two butter knives. And in case you're wondering if you need a bread machine for the recipes, the answer is no - for the main bread recipe, the author gives two sets of instructions - one for a bread machine, the other without. Plus, the recipe list includes not just breads and desserts; the are also recipes for breakfast, snacks (think bars), side dishes and main (savory) dishes.)This is a great little book at a more than reasonable price. Will definitely be using it regularly!
