More gimmick than functional
Box Contents:(1) Instruction manual (more of a picture book)(1) Usb Charger(1) Camera boat(0) extra props That's right, 0, the instructions say you get 2, I got 0First thing to note is this connects via WI-FI and NOT Bluetooth. You have to put the boat in the water first to power it on, then open up the Wi-Fi menu on your phone and select the closest thing to you. it will be a strange sequence of letters & numbers. My phone says security weak and wont automaticity connect. Once you connect it the phone will says no internet detected and turn to turn off the connection. you have to keep it on, it is really a pain. Once that is done, open up the I-Spy app and then select the boat from the menu, ONLY then you will see the camera feed. If you pull the boat out of the water for any reason, it will disconnect from your phone and you have to go back through the connection process all over again. EVERY...SINGLE...TIME...I had to do this three times as I couldn't get the boat to run or follow commands and it kept floating away in our local lake. On the third time I noticed on the top of the screen in the Icons was the word "off". I clicked it and it changed to "ON". then I had full control. NOWHERE in the instructions does it say this, it only shows a picture of the screen and in their picture the word is "on" and their identifier diagram says this "wi-fi" control. So after clicking the "off" button and changing to "on" did the boat run. in full forward mode this thing puts around, Water bugs that run on the surface of the water move faster than this thing does. it kept drifting to the right so I tried adjusting the trim but the buttons on the app didn't work. nothing changed. The bigger up and down buttons on either side of the "trim" change the angle of the camera. So no matter what I tried to push, I only hit the camera buttons. the trim was just too small of an icon or in fact did nothing, I couldn't tell. The camera did not incrementally adjust, it just forward and slightly down facing or down and slightly forward facing, that's it. just two options. On the camera view, there is no pinch to zoom or more or anything, the display is static. Motor control was decent and this thing will spin around in place which is nice. But as I said, this is slow, very very VERY slow. do NOT use this in ANY KIND of current or you will lose it.As I said I tested it in out local lake which does not have the best visibility. The water was calm which is very good as any wind or waves and I would have lost this thing. As it was it was hard to keep near as it kept drifting. So any depth over 8" or 9" the camera would lose the bottom and you couldn't see anything. The attached picture is from a submerged tree branch that stuck above the water. The boat was about 2" from the branch at the front and the camera was pointed forward and slightly down. The water was not real clear but was much clearer than this picture presents it. I was about 4 feet from it and could see further and deeper with my own eyes than the camera on the boat did. While this boat has a very neat and novel idea, it fails in execution. The app is clunky and the wi-fi connection is horrible and troublesome. The boat is so slow you have to VERY careful what water you put this in. Furthermore, the camera has very little viewing distance and needs CRYSTAL CLEAR water to see anything. I would only use this in a small shallow pond or a man made pool. I also believe the price is too much for something as cheap as this. While neat and novel, this boat is far from useful.
