Perfect first time Husky Mama
My Siberian Husky just had her very first litter yesterday. I bought this whelping box two weeks before her due date, and set it up. I had it in the dining room, because that room is more spacious than any other. The place we spend the most time as a family is our living room—which is pretty tiny. And I figured she would want some privacy from us, and my other male dog. I introduced her to the box, and she had no problem walking inside of it to check it out and get a treat. But she wouldn’t hang out in it of her own accord. I also discouraged my other dog from going inside of it. When her whelping day arrived, she made it very clear that she wanted to nest in the living room, as that’s where she’s most comfortable and spends most of her inside time. So I moved the box from the dining room, and put it into the living room…. But she still wouldn’t stay in there when her stage 2 labor began. I didn’t force the issue because I wanted her as comfortable as possible. So—- I tried to hold back my dismay, and put as many towels and pads as I could on my brand new couch (cringe) and let her go to her chosen nest. Once the babies were all here— I moved them into her new whelping box, and she followed with no qualms. Once she was inside of it, and saw the benefits of having her own space to contain her new wriggling bundles of joy, she looked so comfortable and content. I love this box. I’m so relieved I didn’t buy it for nothing! The only thing I don’t like about it, is how hard it is to remove and install the adjustable height on the entry way…. Sliding those plastic pieces in there is no easy task. And it feels like you are going to break the whole thing. Once I put that “adjustable” wall in there… I think it’s going to be there for good. I do think the price is a little steep… but I have to say I am thankful to have it for the first few weeks of the puppies lives. I don’t think it will contain them when they are a month old. Overall, I am happy with this whelping box.

Really good except...
It's honestly worth the purchase it's not too hard to assemble the only issue is the boards don't go in and slide out as easily as they should. (To let Mama in and out) 2 of our boards are really bent and a piece snapped off of one. They still work though.

Great whelping box
Love my whelping box , very spacious & looks really nice aesthetically actually, very solid, well made, and use it for my cats when they have their kittens. My husband put it together with no issues, very useful & overall very happy with product.

Nice but damaged
The first time I ordered this it was returned by USPS because the box and contents were too damaged.Replacement order arrived and box was still damaged and a few of the parts were broken making it difficult to assemble. This is a very nice whelping box when put together, shpiing method could use some work

High-Quality Whelping Pen with Thoughtful Features
I particularly love the pig rail, which can save a puppy from being squashed by mama. The adjustable size door is also a very nice feature. Unlike the kiddie pool I currently use, this whelping pen doesn't come with a floor, but it does include one whelping pad that's easy to launder. It would be nice if it came with two pads so that when one is in the washer, you could use the spare.I have ceramic tile flooring in the room where my whelping pen is set up, so the lack of a solid floor isn't a big deal for me. However, anyone who has whelped a litter knows that mama dog often digs at the bedding, especially just before whelping and sometimes for the first couple of days. If the whelping pad gets tugged out from under the sides of the pen, your floor will be exposed to the fluids associated with whelping. That would be another reason a second pad would be a great addition. I will probably purchase larger sized whelping pads to use that will extend farther beyond the sides of this pen, to help alleviate the chance that the bedding will end up in a ball and the puppies will be on the hard floor. This 40x40" size is appropriate for medium sized dogs, but I see that there's a 48x48" option that should suit larger breeds. Our current litter will be going home soon, but a couple of the puppies will remain here a couple of extra weeks because their owners won't be coming immediately for them when they are ready to go home. I see this whelping pen as a possible good option as a playpen for those couple of weeks.

Comprehensive, Good looking, Functional
This whelping pen arrived when my puppies were already seven weeks old and we have transferred them to a much larger space than their original "kitty pool" whelping pen. So, I will have to wait until the next litter (probably not until next year) to actually get to use it. But, I did check it out and I believe it's made of high quality materials that will be easy to wipe down and keep clean. I love the pig rail that can save a puppy from being squashed by mama.
