Gliding: From Passenger to Pilot

This book is a perfect companion for someone starting out with the sport of Gliding. It explains a lot of the activities found around the gliding club as well as learning to fly a glider.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, though it was a bit too quick of a read for me. Just moved to the UK and have started working on my glider rating. Didn't realize the author was from the UK and much of the book is written for a British reader, though the principles explained apply anywhere. The book does not go into extreme detail or into advanced techniques, but covers the basics very well.

I have been thinking about learning to fly and this book gave me a bit of an understanding of some of the terms used and the practice's involved with gliding.

Very good book, great for learning what gliding is and useful for your flights before solo, gives good overview of beautiful sport. And thanks for kindle edition!

I know that I have had the flight dream as have numerous others. This book shows how it can be achieved. Enjoy!!!

Very useful well written book, with consistent info to other publications, aswell, as a different take on other areas - which is good as it gives another perspective. Coming back to gliding after a 30 year break, and as nothing ever stays the same, it was a good read to see what has / has not changed.... Well illustrated, and clear print. Good buy.

I am a professional gliding instructor and for the last four years I have recommend this book to all my students when they start gliding; for a beginner it is the best book available, bar none!At my club (the SGU) we run summer holiday courses where we have three students sharing one instructor for five days. We are considering including this book as part of our offering, sending it to our students in advance of the course, so that they "hit the ground running".For little more than the price of one flight (off a winch launch) it must be the best deal available to minimise the cost of learning to fly.Chris

A really excellent book for the newcomer to gliding. I read this before having introductory flights and everything I needed to know had already been covered in the book, allowing me to understand everything and enjoy the flights so much more. Can't recommend it highly enough!

I have read Piggot's book but to my mind the clarity of text and illustrations is far superior.For a beginner like me this is a great text book that prepares you for instruction and is very readable too.I believe this is essential reading for any newcomer to the sport.

This book is very well detailed and gives a perfect descriptive journey through all aspects of gliding. As a beginner myself I have found this book extremely helpful. Clear diagrams and uncomplicated text, it is a 'must buy' for any enthusiast.
