Great replacement SmartClean Power Filter
Perfect fit, original quality. Ran nice and quiet. The motor started to fail out on the previous unit and was starting to make noise. This product bought back the peace and calm. Great price and easy to clean and get setup.

Much Better!!
Disclosure: I didn't get this thing for free like other reviews. I spent my own dime folks, so you can feel better knowing my review is for reals. This Aqueon filter is the upgraded March 2024 version to the old model and it's much better!! Old model specs: Slightly smaller depth on back and has that gimicky LED water level light (see pic). The old model does not have a telescoping down spout and the lid rattles no matter how you position or push down on it. Also, the down spout slits are a little too big, so be careful if you have baby shrimps or they will get sucked into the filter and die. I recommend a pre-filter sponge placed over the down spout if you have shrimps. The older model also does not have adjustable water flow. There is only the full bore high throttle setting. Lastly, the impeller is smaller and does not move as much water as the new improved model with bigger magnet impeller (see pic). New model specs: Adjustable down spout with smaller slits, automatic restart after power failure, water flow control, bigger impellar for max suction, and water extraction tube for easier water changes, but I still prefer the old method of using a cup and bucket for 20% water changes. The lid fits perfect and most importantly doesn't rattle. The motor makes a slight hum sound, but nothing too crazy, since it's submerged in the tank, so noise is greatly dampened. I didn't use the bio basket or little blue plastic water diffuser, because I prefer to customize my own filter media. I put Aqua Clear yellow sponges on bottom, then quilt polyster batting in middle (sewing section @ wally world), and top it off with ceramic cylinders in a zipper mesh bag. Don't forget to apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly to the outside magnet impeller to improve function and reduce rattle hum. I 💚 the all black color for easy blending into the background compared to other vendors that have gaudy blue, red, or clear color plastics. Conclusion: Throw the old Aqueon model in the rubbish as none of the parts are transferable to the new model. This new model gives the Tidal 35 a run for their money. The new Aqueon model edges out the Tidal 35 slightly, because it's less bulky & cumbersome, water flow is not as intense as the Tidal 35, there's no impeller rattle noise, and the lid does not rattle either. Good job Aqueon!! I'll update this review if I run into any issues, but so far so good 💙... May 2024 Update: I got nothing. This thing still works like a champ!! Make sure to disassemble the tube and impellar and clean the funk out for maximum flow efficiency.

Best filter for starting off
It works well it’s very quiet but it doesn’t fit my tank roof opening so it vibrates a little but don’t worry I’ll be buying a new light so the roof won’t be needed. The value is great for the quality it is. I love the cleanliness it brings to my tank. It cleaned very quickly when my water was all brown from the substrate.the fish don’t mind it they love to get pushed by the motion. So I’d say there comfort is peak level.

It's really black
This is #4 aquarium filter. Double filter holder. Really keeps my tank filtered. This is for a 53 gallon tank. To be honest, I don't have to change it out as often as my smaller tank filters. The changeable filters are the same size as smaller filters, so no special hunting or ordering. I really like Aqueon brands. They are definitely worth the money. Easy to clean. And easy to reassemble after cleaning. It allows you to change the flow and several other functions, but I don't mess with that. Yes, I would recommend this. And I would buy it again. It really does the job with less work for you.

The cartridges are not sold locally... In my city.
The filter water was too strong of a flow for my fish. The cartridges did not seem to filter out particles. The cartridges were also not available locally. I would need to special order these to arrive. And in a bind, that is not convenient when fish lives are at stake. This also does not sit low enough in my aquarium. So the noise of this is very obnoxious. I set it to the lowest flow and it's still too much water flow for my angelfish. And the debris goes straight through the filter cartridge. The siphon option is a cool option. I did not have the opportunity to try this. But having to add another filtration system to assist with particles in the aquarium is not what I am looking for in a quality filtration system. Unfortunately, when I set this for a return, I was notified that I may not get the entire amount back because I used it? This was supposed to have a return policy. I am returning it within the amount of time yet told I may not get the entire amount back? Im This is a defective item .. does not perform for healthy fish lives. I will repost if I do not receive the full credit back. Otherwise, buyer beware. I am returning this within the time of the return, yet I may not receive the full credit? Again, I will repost if I do receive the full credit. I had high hopes for this filtration system. Very very disappointed. Inconvenient and very risky to my prize fish aquarium set up.

Great Product
Great filter, easy to assemble, easy to clean, perfect size for my 39 gallon tank, light weight, very quite, you can hardly hear it running

The filter is fine, the company is a joke
Pretty nice HOB filter, I bought several for different sized tanks. They sure love to brag about the “tank emptying feature” thing (there’s just a spigot on the inside that swivels out so you can pump the water into a bucket). Kinda cool in theory, not nearly as big a deal as their advertising and marketing tries to make it sound. I’ve used it once and then went back to my standard motor-operated siphon. They also decided to implement a pointless new design of notching a corner out the filter media. Why? Why would you want to REDUCE the surface area of your filter media? There’s literally no reason for it, aside from screwing up the flow of the cheap aftermarket filters on the market. By changing the design, they can guarantee more sales from customers for their proprietary new filter shape for a few months while the clone-makers catch up. Alternatively you can just cut down any standard filter media you have laying around to fit. Overall I’d definitely buy it again (and have, a few times) as they simply work well and are one of the cheapest HOB’s on the market

Nice and quiet
Nice and quiet. Seems to get the water really clean. The filter is more flowy with coco-corish material. I like it. Fish seem more perky. I'll buy it again. Maybe a bigger one for my 55gallon tank. Update. I did get the bigger one for the 55gallon tank. It has a double coco filter. They are already starting to break down after two weeks. I just added a white floss filter on top of them and the water is clearing up nicely. I also like that I can adjust the water flow. I'm not a big fan of the uncontrollable waterfall sound 24/7. It runs faster dying the day and I turn it down in the evening.
