Great surfacing tool for river tables
Had to use this to level river table that had a leak. Just be sure your project is level in 5 points before using the tool with your router and surfacing bit. That is very important. Don't try to adjust depth until you make a pass over the entire work piece (just from experience).I did have to watch the video on how to assemble since instructions are a bit confusing.I will have to say - it saved me a lot of planing with hand planer and sanding. I still had to sand down ridges between passes but that was not as bad has having to take to a lumber shop to do this for me.I'd rate this tool well and glad I purchased it.

Flimsy rails
Adjustment of 1 inch is more than my router can adjust. Rails flimsy. It will get you there if quality is t what you looking for in your finished product, but definitely not impressed for what I paid.

Huge! I'm very pleased.
This SpeTool router sled is huge. It's not hard to assemble, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired. They provide lots of extra parts, including an assortment of screws to mount your router. The pre-drilled holes in the plate you mount your router to didn't fit my Bosch plunge router, buy It's easy enough to drill a few how's in the plexiglas mounting plate. It seems well built and sturdy. I would recommend this router sled, especially if you have large slabs to flatten.

Great router sled
Face it, you’re not going to get a $2000 sled for this price! I really don’t know why there are negative reviews with this sled. It’s very well made. Good quality materials. The company even gives extra parts in case of wear! Verbally, the instructions might be a bit tough for someone not mechanically inclined, but the graphics take care of that! I had absolutely no problem putting this together! I’m guessing 45 minutes to an hour. It fits on a 48” table with lots of leftover room. I’ve got another 48” table that matches with the one in my pictures so I can do something 8’ long if I want! Two router plates are provided. One is pre drilled and the other you need to drill yourself if your router doesn’t fit any of the pre drilled holes. There are plenty of mounting screws provided so you absolutely should be able to mount any router you have. You’ll have to take care of the dust control yourself, but if you’re advanced enough with using a router to do this, it will be no problem.

Practice on some wood and get use to it
Love it I started using lot more than I thought I would love it made my mistakes but earning from them but you want a really good router to run on this thing

Flimsy Rails
The rails can easily be bent/warped with any pressure - even just the weight of the router. This causes uneven milling

Piece of junk
The bolts/screws fall out with every couple of passes from the vibration of the router… DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

I'm not certain if this is the best jig out there but it's well made
There are a hundred different manufactured versions of a flattening jig and another hundreds DIY ones but up to now I'd only had experience with DIY ones. I've been very impressed with the quality on this specific one. It comes with cleanly cut and anodized main tracks, well designed and sturdy brackets, as well as two router mounts for multiple options. I particularly like the inclusion of the blank mount because I have a router that's not supported by the acrylic mount. After marking a few screw holes and heading to the drill press I was ready to go. The material on that mount really likes to be grabbed by bits to be careful. The instructions were decent and walk through everything to get it down in maybe an hour. Getting all the wheel screws in was a little fiddly because they're smaller and in awkward spots but you only need to go that once. Once all assembled I set it on my big 4x8 workbench and was happy to find it easily fit. As long as you have a flat surface edge to ride on you'll get a a clean resulting surface. I will say that it wouldn't hurt if the rails were a little beefier because when my router is in the center there is every so slightly a deflection. It's almost nothing but you see if you're watching. When sliding it along your table because of the distances involved it does want to flex a little in a direction that doesn't matter for surface quality. This means you have to take a little care the 1st time adjusting so it clamps the table as tight as possible without binding. It doesn't hurt to put a little paste wax on the edges of the router mount because it is sliding in a channel on the rails. Once I did everything slid freely. I like the height adjustment available where you just loosen the knobs then lift into a different notch. Just make sure it's fully seated before tightening again. Speaking of adjustment you get a ridiculous amount of height on this thing. That combined with the ability to span 4ft and roll as long as your surface means you can flatten just about anything you can imagine. I think the basic design along with quality manufacturing makes this a good option if you want to upgrade from a DIY one. Bonus points for including a pile of spare parts.
