Clitoria ternatea, commonly known as Asian pigeonwings, bluebellvine, blue pea, butterfly pea, cordofan pea and Darwin pea, is a plant species belonging to the Fabaceae family native to South East Asia. It is a perennial herbaceous plant, with elliptic, obtuse leaves. It grows as a vine or creeper, doing well in moist, neutral soil. The most striking feature about this plant is the color of its flowers, a vivid deep blue. The most popular use for this flower is as a natural food and beverage colouring. It was originally used to colour tea and rice but is now popularly used to colour cocktails containing spirits such as gin and vodka. Our flowers are farmed locally by a small farm in Thailand. They are of the highest quality and consider to be grade A or above.
