Setting Out: A Post-Apocalyptic Journey (Dark Highway Home) Paperback – July 29, 2023

Will keep you engaged…nice story line…believable events…hopefully pick up on some of the other characters journey briefly encountered along the way…

Excellent plot and character development. Binge read this exciting TEOTWAWKI novel in one day. Found details about specific roads and journey to be a bit tedious as well as zealousness about weaponry but that is to be expected. Grammar is excellent. Description of sexual intimacy become increasingly detailed over the course of the novel snd are explicit by book 2.

Have thoroughly enjoyed books 1&2 and have pre-bought book 3 which comes out Jan 2025. Nice to have a post-apocalyptic book without all the preaching and praying.

What a great talented author Lars Larsen is! This book is not to be missed by those of us who enjoy post apocalyptic thrillers. Even though the plot is well-known it is so refreshing in the approach in that the group stops along the journey to help others. Unusual for this kind of genre, the people along the way are often good people who need a little help. My negative parts of this review is that like all these stories very few people have children to deal with and if they happen to be parents they have one child, I suppose that makes for easier story development. Strange too if we are trying for reality is that the farmers in the story don't have dogs. I have known a lot of people who own a farm and they all have a dog. Other than those two glaring omissions the story makes sense. I like a story that starts with some unusual calamity and from there on the characters act in a realistic manner. I can't wait to read book 2. Thank you Mr. Larsen.

Mr. Larsen is an excellent story teller that kept my attention the whole way. It would have been 5 stars except for the political pointing fingers. I’m all for arguments for and against but the random insertion threw me out of the story and didn’t really fit each time except at the first and maybe when telling people about what happened, but what disappointed me was the one way slant, to me an author should show both sides both good and bad if you want to keep it as part of the storyline and be realistic. Love the characters and how the storyline is progressing.

Great book and well written. No sloppy, unsure main main character in this book. This could be a "how too" on surviving an EMP event. There are a lot of things in this book the average American wouldn't have access to but the overall strategy and every day routine are spot on. Really enjoy the characters both main and supporting; they want to survive and Jon (the head guy) is a natural leader and task master. And fyi book 2 is just as good!

This was a great story. I did read both of the books that are out. I would have enjoyed them more if the odd f word wasn't dropped in here and there. They were so not needed. And what's the odds that there would be a couple of the main characters being homosexuals? Distracting and not needed. Unless the writer is pushing an agenda here. Then I finally figured out, the writer is a far leftist pushing that bologna. He hates Trump and loves Biden. If I wanted a liberal leaning story, I'd looked for one. Ruined a really good story. I hope now, looking back at recent history, the author has seen the light. There were story threads left along the way which makes me think the author planned on continuing the series. I hope so. And this time, no liberal stuff please.

If you like the Apocalyptic type stuff this book is for you. Good read. Nice it’s not the usual people get hurt over and over again and not learning the lessons

This is a first class book. It has you totally absorbed from the first page. The characters are very believable and the book flows very well. It's currently 2am so good is this book.

What a beginning to a fantastic series. Absolutely mind boggling. I can only hope some of these things could happen. Can’t wait for the next in the series.

A macho bloke and a half dozen young women all to himself. Beautiful, intelligent, successful woman panders to his every need, often, while modern new man displays his feminist credentials. Up mountains and down dales fighting the bad guys and always winning. Parents on prepper farm known all over the USA. You are trying too hard Mr Larson and your story becomes a tad unbelievable. You have the makings tho. Keep at it.

In a post-apocalyptic world, there are "very bad" guys gunned down by the "very good" with 100 percent success rate. Laughable. The story has some humanitarian episodes. That's why 2 stars not 1.
