I really dont know how this compares to other laser printers, this is my first laser printer. The specs and features seemed good for the price. I have been using hp ink jet printers for my business and usually have to replace them once a year and deal with the various quality and ink issues. Im really impressed with this and wish I had started out with it. Prints and scans fast, text looks crisp and professional.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:.

This is a fantastic printer/scanner/fax machine. It was easy to set up and get running. This is the upgraded version from my previous Canon printer. It's great that it does 2-sided scanning and 2-sided copying. As this is my 3rd Canon printer, it was very easty to set up. I bought this when it was on sale and got an excellent deal on it.

Terrible! Terrible! I am replacing this printer after only 6 months because I am frustrated every single day. It stops working for no reason. It shows that my document has printed when it hasn't. It doesn't even show an error. When you add paper, before you are even able to close the printer tray it tries to print and then jams because the tray isn't all the way in yet. It takes 5-6 minutes to print each sheet of paper at times. The frustration this printer has caused me makes me want to take it out into the parking lot and smash it with a sledghammer. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!

I bought 2 of these for my offices. They work fine, but I will say the wireless directions are confusing.

This unit replaced an over 10 year old Canon printer, whose paper intake finally failed. (No complaints there, that one served well over the years.)We have this unit connected via Ethernet and use it as copier/printer and scanner. So far it has worked flawlessly and - unlike with a recent Brother printer that I purchased for my mom - here the driver installation was smooth and went without a hitch.As with any network device that acts as a "server" (in the broadest sense), it is a good idea to set it to a fixed IP address on your network's DHCP server (usually your router) and you should do that BEFORE installing any drivers. This is how you do that:1. Connect the device to your network and power it up.2. Go to your router's management interface and check the IP address and the MAC address of this printer.3. Add this device via its MAC address as a static IP address and save this new setting. Make sure that IP address is inside your subnet, but outside of the range of dynamic IP addresses.4. Wait until this printer has picked up the IP address, you assigned it to. This make take a few hours, but you might be able to speed this up by turning off the router and this printer, then turning on the router again and - after a minute or two - turn on this printer.5. Get the newest drivers and software from the website, don't bother with any included CD and install them in the sequence that the manual suggests.6. You're ready to print and scan to your heart's content.

Very good and dependable copier

There is no reason for me to spend more money on color ink. Now that you can send pictures and documents digitally printing is just for filing or documentation. This is a cost effective unit and it is important that I can scan to my flash drive. I use this machine to print sign and scan documents. Compact size works well easy installation. Easy to connect. Large ink capasity.
