What a funny book
My 4yr old has been reading this at school and has been talking to me about it so I decided to buy it for him so we could read it at home, and we have a real giggle doing so :)

Stunning illustrations for a fun text
Thoroughly enjoy reading this to my children. It's now a bit dog-eared because we've read it so many times. Nikki Dyson's illustrations add so much to the story and are a real talking point each time. Definitely recommended!

Not amusing really....
There's not much story to it and the ending doesn't help as, after all his efforts, the only thing hippo discovers about himself is that his skill is basically having a large bum.

Find your super power!
When this arrived for me to share with my children I couldn't wait, I knew this would appeal to them and I wasn't wrong. This is a really cute story about a hippo, who really wishes he had a super power. His friend Roxi encourages Zippo the hippo to realise that he is special and he does have a super power, he just needs to find it.The pair of friends go through different talents Zippo feels he has, all of which Roxi doesn't believe is a super power. Roxi suggests a new talent that Zippo may have that hasn't even thought about. Zippo practises his new talent but feels that perhaps it isn't right for him. Roxi gets Zippo to see what his talent really is.The children I read this story to really enjoyed it, they liked to see what Zippo was going to try next. The illustrations are wonderful and the book is so colourful which helps to keep the children interested in it. All children were able to tell me if they liked or disliked the story, all of which say they liked it. They also said it is a story they would like to read again.I would like to thank the publisher for sending this in exchange for an honest review.

Searching for your own special superpower... just what is this for a hippo?
The theme has been seen before - finding what makes YOU special and unique. Zippo is trying to find a way to be super, along with his friend Roxi the oxpecker. She doesn't think his ability to plod or swim really count... Can they find out just what Zippo's superpower is?My son quite enjoyed this - he likes Zippo's attempts to fly (and what ensues), the wordplay (hippo-botty-mus), and the conclusion. I thought it was a bit silly really, but it's a pleasant enough bedtime read. I do think that there could be a conclusion where a REAL skill or talent becomes obvious - other animals fly or swim well, why is hippo's skill basically having a large bum?So, I will read this again with my son - he likes it - but I just wish there was a moral that said that everyone has a talent of their own.One for ages 3-6.
