RD23

I have a few of these mini DAB/FM radios now which have the convenience of an actual speaker as well as a personal headphone socket and after a week or so I have to say this is the best one in the budget range that I've tried so far. Especially the quality of the speaker is excellent for such a small device, easily good enough for a kitchen/bedroom radio and quite pleasant to listen to news/culture and sports channels like BBC/LBC/Talk Sport with very clear audio. I also like the basic shiny black plastic shell, thank god they haven't coated it in that terrible rubber film that feels good for a few months and then deteriorates into a sticky mess making the device unusable. The reception on both FM and DAB is good once you find a good position for the radio but does need the rather flimsy antenna fully extended. I am in a strong reception area so this is not a big problem for me but the radio may struggle with reception in other areas of the country. The controls are basic with six preset buttons and up to 40 available in total by fiddly scrolling through a list, but I do like the dial control for the volume, just like on older analog radios it's much smoother and quicker to control than using buttons. (Unfortunately, like most digital radios the lowest volume level is not low enough, especially for night listening with the radio near your pillow - why doesn't the volume decrease to zero smoothly?) No headphones are included in the package and the charging port is the old-fashioned micro-USB type, but a cable is provided and the radio works fine while charging.

A versatile little radio. This is a glowing review because I really like it, not because I'm getting paid. It is genuinely pocket sized, with most of the main controls and sockets on the upper surface. It works fine without deploying the aerial in urban environments and you can use your headphones via a 3.5mm socket. The aerial is an obvious weak point, being so thin, so take care with it. The onboard speaker is surprisingly effective for such a small unit and is fine for spoken word stations. If you listen to music with it, plug this into a boombox. It doesn't have blutooth, so you may need to buy an audio cable - 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male. I am using it in my car. I was disappointed by products that use an aerial tucked under the windscreen trim - the battery failed in the one I got and it's now sitting in a drawer waiting to see if I can fix it. This unit, however, works very well in a vehicle - there were no dropouts at all on a journey I know well across some countryside, where various alternatives have struggled previously. The reception is terrific. Some practical points on using the thing in this way - you can attach it to a suitable position on your dash with sticky-back velcro (make sure all surfaces are super-clean). I use a 3.5mm audio cable to connect it to the car's audio system. When setting this up, make sure that you have enough room to deploy the aerial if needed - around 40cm and get an audio cable of the correct length. It does not have a usb c input, unlike many gadgets these days - it has a larger usb A socket for power. This may mean you need to get a new cable for it. I'm using a usb c to usb a cable and it feels like doing things backwards. Works fine, though. To me, this DAB radio feels well-designed and I am very pleased with how it performs. Just be careful with the fragile aerial. I hope the battery is of better quality than some of its competitors, but only time will tell.

Pros: Small. good reception on both FM and DAB. One of the best speakers for it's size I've come across. MP3 Playback. 50 presets on both FM and DAB. Thumbwheel volume control, Fairly intuitive controls. Decent battery life. Cons : Cheap looking "Piano black" finish Very small display. USB Socket and numeric key pad of doubtful utility Bought this to replace my danaged Azatom and it's a good choice. Performance is similar and has MP3 playback too. MP3 playback limited to sequential file playback buttu not a problem for me as I use it mainly for audibooks. A large colection of songs for instance would quickly become unmanageable but this is true of the limited number number of DAB radios which even offer MP3 playback. 6 numeric buttons for direct entry of presets seems a bit supurfluos as the radio offers 50 in both modes but the keypad only allows direct selection of first 6 in your preset list. After that it's arrow buttons for the the other 44! The space would have been better used for a larger display. Supurfluous USB ssocket. Is any one really going to plug a pendrive into a pocket radio for MP3 playback when there is a microSD card slot right next to it! A fairly barebones radio with no equaliser (presets or manual), sleep timer, display brightness/timeout adjustment etc. but the recption and sound quality are good from speaker or headphones and this is what matters to me most. After all you're not buying a HiFi system. It is worth noting that the radio uses the telescopic antenna even when earphones are plugged in. It's hard to criticisise but a larger display instead of the keypad and USB socket (both of doubtful value) would have made it a game changer at the price.

I'm bit of a gadget fanatic and I have to say I like this little gadget a lot. For me is far more common sense than many of the alternative products, in how it is designed. It definitely does feel rather cheap but in use it's a real winner for me. The external speaker is absolutely fine for speech and not unpleasant for music. Just having an external speaker puts it ahead of brands like Roberts which is not have one. There is an analogue rotating wheel volume control. This is brilliant when using the external speaker but with earphones the lowest volume is actually quite allowed middle volume and as you turn the wheel down the soundest cuts out. So if you are using everyday headphones that usually are quite sensitive and that could be a problem. Also the sound through the earphone jack is very thin and without much bass. It's very strange because it sounds really nice when plugged into my PC speakers. I think they tried to go for clarity. Because when it is plugged into external speakers it sounds very pleasant and engaging, not harsh or unpleasant. Basically average decent the DAB sound. If you're mostly going to be using it with earphones this is properly not the best option, particularly needing the aerial extended. This gadget really shines as an all-rounder but for mostly listening to the external speaker. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9, the sound quality from that is very good, sound from this little gadget is very similar and goes a bit louder The six direct presets are brilliant, I just wish there were more. The aerial looks very flimsy but it seems somewhat springy so is not the worst aerial. It's likely light handling a newborn baby. But the aerial goes in and out very easily when the aerial is out sitting on a shelf is completely fine when you pick it up slightly aerial in. It has a slightly mission impossible film feel from the 60s. I utilise the USB and the microSD card set. It's a nice variation to have a break from audiobooks to listen to radio. Just to prepare you for any disappointment that the Speak is clear from radio, it's not brilliant when used as a Bluetooth speaker but it's adequate speech. And also when you're changing channels you have to repeatedly click but it is not too bad. I'm really happy with it but if anyone made anything similar with the same features but really good quality, that would make me very happy as well, even if it cost double or more. It is definitely quirky but I like it very much.

I was keen to obtain a portable DAB radio, but was sceptical about how good the reception would be. I finally plumped for the Raddy RD23, and so far I am very happy with my purchase. The sound quality and reception are more than acceptable, I was able to obtain the channels I wanted, and the radio is only about the size of a mobile phone, so highly portable. As other reviewers have noted, the aerial does seem a little flimsy, but so long as you are careful this shouldn't be a major issue. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase.

It was wonderful in the beginning but soon lost the capacity to scan and store, the off/on switch a bit tricky, came off but was OK attaching it back: was excellent when working so disappointed

Very small but with surprisingly good audio - much nicer sounding than other tiny radios I’ve heard. Battery life is ok at about 8 or so hours. Dedicated preset buttons (for first 6 presets) - very good feature, the unit is intuitive to use, and has a thumb wheel for volume - this is sooooooo much better than horribly up/down clicky buttons! Seems to pull in radio signal very well. One glaring omission for me is the lack of a sleep timer… d’oh!! 😖😩 It’s also micro usb charging which is a bit old-hat but not the end of the world 🤷‍♂️ But apart from this the radio is really very good, & audio quality is very good indeed for the size, & that’s the most important thing, right?! Great for travel, bathroom, garden shed, etc, or for when/where u don’t have WiFi so can’t use smart speaker/mobile phone.

Perfect little radio for me. I don't sleep well so this tucks tidily under my pillow to keep me company during the long nights. It's very easy to set up. The build quality is good. The sound is excellent both through the earphones and loudspeaker. I find the six preset buttons a real advantage and simple to operate in the dark when I can't see what I'm doing! All in all agreat little pocket radio at a good price

Kleiner Abstrich, aber was soll's.

Great radio, no issue, just wish to have the option to connect to bluetooth ear buds, or bluetooth headphones, dont need to stream music to the radio from phone using bluetooth, should have been the other way round

Buena radio, relación calidad precio buena, el altavoz perfecto y el manejo sencillo.

Great sound. Perfect for outside usage

Mini radio très complète. Excellente réception, son clair et pratique le rechargement en USB-C.
