A truly beautiful evergreen twining climber introduced in species form from China in 1844 by Robert Fortune. Also occurs naturally in Korea and Japan. Trachelospermum jasminoides Star of Toscane is a recent cultivar and one of the best of these Star Jasmines. The flowers begin white with a lovely orange yellow center and age to a soft creamy white with a hint of yellow. Star of Toscane flowers prolifically from early summer until autumn with one of the strongest of fragrances and longest flowering periods. Lush evergreen foliage is often suffused with red in winter adding to the attraction of this lovely climber. Easy to grow in a sheltered, full sun to light shade location. Grows in most soils that are not water logged. Can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot. Wherever you plant it it will need something to grow up! When growing in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the late spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost. Ensure the location protects this plant from harsh winds which it cannot tolerate. Really an exceptionally attractive plant.
