From Liberty To Tyranny
This "cookbook" from the anarchist/liberal Left is written for the purpose of collapsing both Socialism, & especially Capitalism---under the guise of creating the tyrannical socio-economic "utopia" of Communism. The 'Invisible Committee'(of anarchists/liberals)in Socialist France, espouse even the most violent methods to bring down existing global governments: with No regard for the value of human life, dignity, or our God-given F-R-E-E W-I-L-L --- except of course, for their own selfish despotic agenda. It quite speaks for itself. We are each & all responsible to a consistent ethical & moral authority which is greater than ourselves; otherwise there is anarchy. This is one of the most fundamental Truths of all. Anarchy is chaos. Imagine if there were chaos in the way atomic particles form atoms; visualize the chaos & utter idiocy of demanding that all forms of communication be choatic; or that anarchy & chaos be the means in which the human body functions. These simple analogous realities expose how blatantly absurd the fundamental premise of "The Coming Insurrection" is---the extreme Liberal/Left, which believe in everything but Creation's Creator. How absurd is that???! Of course if they acknowledged a Creator, then they would be ethically & morally responsible to that Creator... Responsible!!!? Oh My !A Godless society is in the self-destruct mode--- suicidal. Just look around. An idiot--- a stupid idiot, at that, might believe otherwise... or even that our U.S. congress is honest, uncorrupt, moral, responsible. So do we really need even more "liberal"/Leftist empowerment? All existence is governed by 'Nature & Nature's Laws'--- not anarchy & chaos; not some "liberal" 'preference'. This is abundantly & glaringly obvious to all who have functional synapses & walk with common sense. Then again, history is replete with timeless examples of the selfish & fools who have chosen to ignore these obviously basic socio-economic precepts, purposing to dominate & forbid each individual's rightful excercise of Free Will.Re-Read the "Declaration of Independence".Read the Founding Fathers' writings. These were men of Substance & Sound Logic, who believed & fought for Freedom, Liberty, & Dignity... NOT for"a strategic prescription for an emergent war-machine to 'spread anarchy and live communism' ". Yes, the Founders of America were revolutionaries, but they were definitely not anarchists. Nor were they pursuant of anything remotely similar to the self-centered vanities of the Anarchists & Liberalists we witness today; again, read their writings.Capitalism / Free Enterprise is the Only system which provides ther best of the best; when & where it becomes dysfunctional it requires attention: NOT annhilation. Duh.This book will alert all who stand along the watchtowers to keep an informed eye on contemporary events which are looming on the political horizon.I earnestly suggest these 3 other books(for those who don't use a chaotic alphabet, that is,) :"None Dare Call It Treason";"Common Sense";"Catastrophe".

The Coming Stupidity
I've given 'The Coming Insurrection' 4 stars not on literary merit but because I found it informative. In many ways it is just as heated and irrational as Hitler's 'Mein Kampf' or 'The Protocols of the Elders of Zion' and, despite its very different message the overall tenor is suspiciously the same. The writers are Leftist Nihilists who believe that modern industrial and work-oriented society is not only foolish...it is about to go into the dustpan of history. Deservedly so, in their opinions. They aim to speed things along by a succession of societal and infrastructure disruptions including vandalism, theft, strikes, go slow, obnoxiousness, sabotage etc. They won't stop there. There believe destrucion of the power grid which will cast all of France into darkness, is a very good start. To the authors, work is purposeless, demeaning and counterrevolutionary. Therefore, their followers are not to work, living by their wits. They should, instead, set up interlocking communes that will survive, initially, by parasitizing greater society...but...as society breaks down...largely by their efforts...they will need to become experts in medicine, agronomy, farming, marine biology and sociology which means...of course...that they will have to work [????].If everything works out as planned [and it won't] their multiple leaderless communes will spread out to occupy the cities and countryside. No mention is made of the previous inhabitants but you can guess. Nirvana will be achieved with little labor and plenty of time to spend on the real values of life such as meaningful relationships. Our Plastic-Elastic society is rightfully history and the remaining Commune-istas are happy, fulfilled and content.Of course, it's hogwash. Communities, even communes, naturally acquire leaders and, even more naturally, are creatures of factionalism and jealousy. Communes will either implode and/or be taken over by dominant leaders who, more than likely, will make people work real, real hard--as ignorant slaves.Also....nature abhors a vacuum and the French Communes would be a political vacuum that will be filled--probably by North African Muslims. The lotus-eating Commune-istas will find themselves obliged to convert--and work--or face ruthless punishment. If not the Muslims, then the Russians or Chinese but, and this can be totally guaranteed, the idealistic communes will have a VERY short half-life.In the meantime, though, these fools could do a lot of damage.Ron

This scraped up to two stars due to the mid ...
This scraped up to two stars due to the mid section of the book which described in "seven circles" the state of contemporary life. This section was well written (or translated?) and carried a mythic quality in the proper meaning of mythic. It was a poetic revelation of how we live. In some way this is the burden of the book and it rings true. What is wrong then is the vacuity of thought before and after the description of the world. The authors drew no lessons and fail miserably to find a solution beyond a romantic destruction based on "communes", which would inevitably self-destruct or become repressive themselves. The paucity of thought is summarised in the view that the" economy is the crisis". Economies exist, get over it "invisible committee". The crisis is not a system, its human beings failing to grasp life. The solutions border on the inane ramblings of a conspiracy theorist with an "us and them" attitude aimed at anyone that is not acceptable to the authors. The first section written whilst the authors were in prison awaiting trial is a big time wimp out, and references as a symptom of the decline of our civilisation that people now can only afford to take holidays with (horror of horrors) budget airlines! Get real IC. Armchair revolutionaries advocating sanitised violence.

A Shock of Recognition
I really enjoyed this little book. It's one of those texts that you find yourself saying 'Yes, that IS the way it is!' with almost a shock of recognition. Certainly, at times the language is a little rhetorical, almost poetic, but that's o.k. - at least it means there's some passion there. So what is in the book? It's divided into a number of sections, the main being seven 'circles' or areas of contention. These rather reminded me of the areas of analysis outlined by David Harvey in his recent and comprehensive ' The Enigma of Capital '.The first 'circle' is the personal:'My body belongs to me. I am me, you are you and something's wrong. Mass personalisation. Individualisation of all conditions - life, work and misery.' (P29)It seems to me that this is related to the ideas in Thomas Frank's ' The Conquest of Cool ' but taken further, and taken personally. The second 'circle' refers to culture in a fairly wide sense, including the media, schools:'A burst of laughter is the only appropriate response to all the serious "questions" posed by news analysts. To take the most banal: there is no "immigration question". Who still grows up where they were born? Who lives where they grew up? Who works where they live?' (P35)The third concerns itself with 'work', the fourth with the 'metropolis' - rejecting the town/country split and seeing the whole as 'one single urban cloth' (P52).The fifth deals with the 'economy' - 'We have to see that the economy is not "in" crisis, the economy is itself the crisis.' (P63)The sixth circle looks at the environment - again, the book turns the terminology on its head by stating that 'There is no "environmental catastrophe". The catastrophe is the environment itself.' (P74)Finally, the seventh 'circle' considers 'civilisation' - specifically Western civilisation and its relation to the State: 'The older and more powerful the state, the less it is a superstructure or exoskeleton of a society and the more it constitutes the subjectivities that people it.' (P87).The seven 'circles' take up most of the book. It seems to me that really what is being described here is a very deep and all-pervasive sense of alienation . That rings true too.The final sections attempt to put forward strategies to resist this alienation, to re-connect, renew and rethink the relationships between people and the 'circles'. Tending towards a sort of self-help, communard anarchism, it comes close to utopian, but it reminded me of other attempts to think through a different set of social relations - in novel form there's the classic ' The Dispossessed ' or the more recent ' New Model Army '. It also reminded me a bit of Régis Debray's 'Revolution in the Revolution?'.It might be easy, I suppose, to dismiss this book as youthful overblown utopian rhetoric. I really think that that would be a mistake. As I said at the beginning, there is a shock of recognition in the descriptive sections of the book; it is describing real issues and real events. These issues need more than a dry academic exposition - '...we dream of an age equal to our passions.' (P84) The Enigma of CapitalThe Conquest of CoolalienationThe DispossessedNew Model Army

Exhillarating!
At times naive, a little confused and hopelessly utopian, The Coming Ressurrection is in turn lucid, focussed and able to hit the target effortlessly. And this book is not just about the romance of revolutionary struggle. It is an achingly contemporary, twenty-first century handbook to understand the world we as westerners now live in, and how to change it for the better. This little blue book may have its faults, but despite all of them, it is utterly uplifting.
