Pinus thunbergii (Japanese Black Pine), often grown as a Bonsai, is a gymnosperm tree that develops to be 20-50 feet tall. It features a pyramidal shape with a flat top and no obvious centre leader. It will become uneven and asymmetrical as it matures, with a spreading crown and pendulous limbs. The silky whitish candle-like terminal buds distinguish this specimen. The contrast with the greenery creates an eye-catching effect. Young foliage candles stand tall. A thick plant that works well as a screen. It tolerates salt spray well and transfers well.
