At Last
Being a fan of Casio for ever & owned several over past decades, virtues of a G shock & Edifice escaped my attention. G shocks, mainly for their size & expense & Edifice- well, don't know why.Upon discussions with a friend, who knows far more about watches than I do, even though I converted him into a Casio fan, we concluded that a fan of Casio has to have a G shock & an Edifice. To put it right, we went straight back to the origins of a G Shock & the original rectangular, all digital LCD would be just right.5600 series is the one.Being conservative in my style & practicality a consideration, whittled down the choice to simpler 5600 1ver or a near identical but with the addition of of solar & multi band time receiving signal. Decided to go with 5600 for the simple reason that the acquisition of the other want, an Edifice, some 6 months ago has both Solar & multi band.So the 5600 arrived some 6 days ahead of the date given to which I thank the suppliers & received it adequately packed & safe. It came in a hexagonal tin box, lined all around in cushioning sponges, which was a good surprise in itself. The item, carefully taken out of the protection is a thing of beauty. Somewhat larger than the previous Casios but feels weightless on the wrist but has a little more presence on it. It does not feel big. In fact it now occupies it's place, fitting as snug as the proverbial glove on the hand. It's a positive display LCD, therefore clearly visible in daylight & a normal lit up room. In twilight & nighttime, the handy backlight is operated to produce a perfect glow to know the time. I've had the watch for about 4 days now & having adjusted the time accurately upon receipt; today, the second is still spot on. I need not say anything else about other functions of the watch, which can be found in the specifications list. The box of a G shock want is well & truly ticked & why I waited years to have one is a regret, however small a regret for it's a model of desire which has, at last, been sated but the business end of a time check look is ubiquitously that come with all Casios that I possess. With indestructive nature of this item, that no others Casio or non Casio match, occupying adequate real estate of my wrist, this has to be amongst the best watches on this earth.Than you Kikuo Ibe, the designer of the concept & thank you Amazon for bringing it to me.

So stealthy, I couldn't even read the time on it (but I've bought another one anyway)
As a plumber, I need a robust watch with a nylon or woven strap as it leads a very hard life which resin straps can't withstand. I have a Lorus 'Sport' analogue watch which has put up with 12 years of abuse and still works fine, but the glass was badly scratched and my eyesight isn't as good as it once was, so I decided to try this Casio as it seemed to offer everything I wanted.I was really looking forward to getting it, but sadly, when it arrived, I found the display was so faint without using the backlight that I simply couldn't read it in daylight, even with my reading glasses on. It's nowhere near as clear as the photos on here imply. It looked great, but it's not much use if you can't tell the time with it! Consequently, I returned it to Amazon for a refund within two hours of unpacking it.Update, March 2018:Having written the above review in November 2017, I forgot about it and carried on with my ancient analogue Lorus. But to be honest, I really liked the Casio and eventually thought I'd give it another chance.Sadly, having now bought a second one, I'm afraid it's still much too faint to be any use except in strong daylight. I've reluctantly decided there's no choice but to send it back for a refund too.I'm pleased to have just found that the Casio GLS-5600CL-1ER is pretty much the same watch but with their traditional dark numerals on a light background and a more conventional nylon strap (with un-polished stainless bits). It's a bit more expensive, but you can also read the time on it!Here it is:G-Shock Men's GLS5600CL-1 Watch BlackIn my photo, the GLS5600 is on the left, the DW5600 on the right. The plastic case mouldings are identical, it's the face and surrounds and strap that are different (and the GLS has a few more features too).Further update 21st May 2018 - Confession time.... I've bought another DW-5600BBN-1ER because I like the looks so much and it was only about £11 more from Amazon for the whole watch than the cost of just its strap from Casio!I've got to bang it back up to five stars now (this was a one star review for a start), even if it is mostly just decorative except under strong light. Finally, a bit of trivia. I've recently discovered, from reading a review of another of Casio's reversed display watches, that in fact the LCD digits don't actually have any in-built illumination, but just reflect the light back to you. That's why you'll find with one of these watches that unless you're looking at the display in a brightly lit situation, it appears almost illegible. Get daylight, or another artificial light source shining on the face, and you'll be able to read it clearly.
