how do i prevent micro bubbles forming in the painted modgepodge surface? this is a coating that is visible and not under paper.

Do the bubbles get created by loads of water on your paintbrush? The product is quite thick and shouldn't have bubbles unless its been watered down somehow. This is the only thing I can think of. Use a clean paintbrush that is wet but not soggy. Hope it helps.
