Excellent kindling maker and wood splitter. I was skeptical when I first saw it, it just didn't seem like something that would "do the job," but it was wrong. It works great to chop wood and get that perfect sized kindling. The blade has a decent edge on it and makes quick work of most wood. I bought it mainly for vacationing and camping, where there isn't much place for you to safely split wood using an axe without the risk of causing property damage. The wide base on the kindling maker makes it great for chopping without destroying property. It has a hefty weight to it so it doesn't tip easily and only requiring a 5lb mallet to split wood takes up less packing space.

This thing is hefty and SHARP. I don't know that we'll ever need to purchase a replacement as I anticipate it will last years if not decades. The photo is of my 5 year old son and a portion of the wood he was able to split without any help. So functional and makes firewood prep so much easier/faster. I recommend this to anyone who wants to make the work of chopping wood more efficient.

Fantastic wood splitter! Very durable, easy to use. I get firewood in quarter and half round, which is too large efficient wood burning. I use a 3 pound sledge. Usually takes 2 to 4 whacks to complete split the wood. FWIW, I am 70 years old and too scared/weak to use a big axe or a wedge. This is *perfect* and fool proof. Very solid - worth the cost.

I remember splitting firewood with a maul and wedges. What a pain. This product is absolute genius. You put the piece you want to split on the blade and give it a gentle tap. That seats the blade in the log and holds the log in place. Then you bang on it with a hammer or maul and it splits. So much easier, and so much safer. Works like a charm. Really sturdy cast iron construction. Honestly, just a game changer for this task. One of the most perfectly innovated, designed and produced products for any purpose that I have ever seen. This wood splitter works really well. I finally found something that I can split firewood with that actually works. It is solid steel and very sturdy. I bought the XL version and the ring conveniently holds the wood from falling out while you strike it with a sledge hammer. The piece of wood typically splits after two or three whacks. I recommend this product.

I've had the XL size splitter for about a year now and it's been a VERY effective tool for splitting firewood and safe enough for my 9 and 11 year old boys to use (with supervision). It's one of the best purchases I've made this year and I can't say enough good stuff about this ingenious tool.Because you are swinging a hammer down onto the wood (instead of a blade), this a MUCH safer way of splitting kindling than with a hatchet. The ring keeps the split logs from flying everywhere, which is helpful. We put a tarp underneath so it's easy to sweep up the little wood chips that splinter off. The tool is rock solid, I've had no need to sharpen the blade yet and the iron ring has held up to many accidental hits by the 4 pound Fiskars sledge hammer we're using.It's a ton of fun too, I'll often start splitting wood and then my boys ask to join in. It splits all different types of wood well. We've had success with hard woods like almond and maple; the softer woods like redwood and pine are just straight up enjoyable to split with this tool - sometimes in just 2 or 3 whacks! There's something therapeutic about getting out and splitting a bundle of firewood and I've been surprised how much I enjoy it.Can't recommend this tool highly enough!
