A premiere recording of Christopher Ball's Horn Concerto and his Oboe Concerto, featuring soloists Tim Thorpe and Paul Arden-Taylor respectively. Also includes 'In the Yorkshire Dales' and 'On a Beautiful Day' as well as 'Invocations of Pan' for flute (Burgess). Ball's aim is to compose music which will communicate with and appeal to as wide an audience as possible, eschewing atonal or avant-garde style, which makes these works highly listenable and enjoyable to all audiences. A horn concerto as Vaughan Williams would have written one, the most attractive of Ball's concertos. --MusicalMerit (re: Ball's Violin Concerto) The most lyrical since Elgar's. --Fanfare Review: Well written concerti that feature orchestra too - Great modern composer who writes solo concerti that feature the orchestra as well as the solo instrument. Review: Christopher Ball - I was first introduced to this music by hearing his evocative 'A Summer Day' and was immeidately captivated by it.and bought this CD with which I am well pleased. I shall buy more of this composer's CDs.

Another Hit for Mr Ball!!
I know Chris Ball's music through the playing of the excellent oboeist, Paul Arden Taylor. Both men love their music and excel in their respective roles of creating and playing it, thus bringing lightness, and enjoyment to the listener's ear... During the dull days of this winter, I've lightened the mood by playing tracts which conjure up time spent in the countryside soaking up the warmth of the sun and surrounds.. Recommend it!
