I wildly recommend this textbook to you.
I wasn't prepared to fall in love with the Hebrew language as much as I did while using this book. The experience was enjoyable and formative -not usually what one expects learning an ancient language to be. The approach invites the learner to engage the learning process holistically, instead of with only the mind. It is hospitable to a variety of learning styles and encourages the learner to engage the work within community instead of isolation.I especially appreciate that the book draws deeply on the worldview of those who spoke this language long ago. It not only provides a structure for learning the alphabet, vocabulary, and verb tenses, but also soaks the reader in culture, revealing the large root system of worldview that allows the tree of the Biblical Hebrew language to flourish. I can't say enough about how formative this book and its approach was for me.I wildly recommend this textbook to you.

this book changed my life.
Wow. This book changed my life- and while that might sound dramatic, it's true. West's interactive approach to this ancient language captured my attention, my mind, my heart, my whole self (nephesh- in Hebrew!). From the songs, memorization exercises and dialogues to the theological expositions and grammar practices, Biblical Hebrew is incredibly helpful and has a way of getting into you. I now sing Hebrew prayers randomly throughout the day, and I look at the Hebrew Scriptures in a new, wonderful and awe-filled way. I couldn't recommend this book more to anyone desiring to study the beautiful ancient language of Hebrew.

I would recommend this to any student/teacher/professor
This textbook was an interactive and immersive (think Jonah) approach to learning Biblical Hebrew. From the first time you open the book from the 'wrong' direction (back-to-front), to the Hospitality of the Heart section of each chapter that gives insight and depth into the meaning behind the text, this book re-imagines a way of learning and teaching Hebrew that involves the whole body and class.I especially appreciated the structure of wading into the basics of the Hebrew language during the first half of the book and then there is a decided shift in the second half that speeds up the learning process and builds up from the foundation of understanding.I would recommend this to any student/teacher/professor who is looking to not only learn Hebrew but who also wants to begin to understand the worldview that is behind the aleph's and tav's.

An excellent resource and tool for learning Hebrew!
This book and it's methods are an excellent resource to learning the ancient Hebrew language. As a seminary student, the languages are required courses which lead me to not expect much personally. I was taking the course because I had to. However, the way the course is set up and how it is taught using the methods in this book, I quickly found myself falling in love with the language and course. This book will become a helpful and easy to understand resource to learning the Hebrew language. Not only will it help you understand the grammatical nature of the language but the theological and practical implications the languages has upon us and readers of Scripture today.

the method represented in this textbook generates love of the Hebrew Scriptures
In my teaching experience, the method represented in this textbook generates love of the Hebrew Scriptures, depth of formation, and joy in learning. At almost any time during class, I can look around and see everyone smiling. The textbook is clearly organized, theologically thoughtful, and filled with creative pedagogy. I highly recommend it.

A Gift to the Learning of Biblical Hebrew...
My "go to" resource for Biblical Hebrew. We used this book in seminary. It was transformational. From the grammar helps, to the songs & blessings, to the Hebrew thinking connection for your heart, to the in-depth study of Jonah, the Creation story, and the Binding, it will bless you as well. This one will be on my bookshelf to pull out and remember and learn more from for many years to come.
