Professional Precision and High Readability!
The Shinwa H101-C 300 mm Machinist Ruler is a top-tier tool for anyone requiring high precision, especially in 3D printing, woodworking, or metalworking. It stands out from "big box store" options due to its rigid build and specialized finish. What I liked: "Zero Glare" Finish: The satin chrome finish drastically reduces reflections. While not literally "zero" reflection, it is much easier to read under bright shop lights compared to shiny stainless steel. Extreme Accuracy: It conforms to the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) B 7516 Grade 1, which is the benchmark for professional-grade measuring tools. Dual-Sided Markings: One side features mm and 0.5 mm increments, while the reverse often includes a convenient metric conversion table. Built for Longevity: The ruler is hardened and tempered stainless steel, making it highly resistant to bending, corrosion, and wear. Legible Etching: The markings are precision photo-etched and black-filled, so they won't rub off or fade over time like printed scales. Pro Tip: One end of this ruler is ground flat and straight, allowing for dead-stop measurements from an edge, while the other end is rounded with a hanging hole for easy storage. If you are tired of squinting at flimsy, reflective rulers, this is a "buy it once" upgrade for your workshop.

good choice
Excellent. The lines are so much easier to follow than the rulers that have micro millimeter markings. It is an excellent length and allows more accurate lining up across the page.

Great Quality, nice markings and metal finish
Impeccable quality. Great non-reflective finish, clear markings. I will probably order different sizes from this company. Helpful when you do 3D printing. One indicated his was warped, likely due to shipping. Its just in a vinyl pouch, and mine arrived with a 3D filament spool together in a paper sack.

Good, useful, quality tool
Well made, precision, easy to read scales. I wouldn't call it "zero glare," though. Like any metal surface, it will reflect light hitting it at an angle. But it's relatively low reflectivity, so it doesn't generally interfere with reading the scale. A good, useful too.

Japanese and Chinese versions are slightly different
The first one of these I ordered was slightly warped and would not lay flat on it's own. It would touch in the middle, but the ends would come up 0.5-1mm on each side. So, I ordered another one. The new one I ordered was different. The first one said Made in China on the packaging, and the new one said Made in Japan on both the package and on the rule itself. The Made in Japan version had Shinwa written in English on it, and the Made in China one had Shinwa written in katakana. If you looked really close, the printing on the Japan version was slightly better, especially with the larger red numbers. The edge on the Chinese version was not as smooth. Another thing to note is that at the 300mm mark they were off about 0.1mm from each other when I lined them up at zero. I didn't bother to check which one was more accurate, because that kind of error is fine for what I'm using this for. BOTH are legitimate Shinwa products. Shinwa has 2 factories in China and one in Japan. Maybe I just got a bad one, but the Chinese version was definitely not as good as the Japanese version. I'm very happy with the Made in Japan version I have now, I returned the slightly warped Chinese version. It's not as nice as my Starrett, but it's 1/5th the price and well worth it. Even though I had problems with the first one I received, I'll buy Shinwa again as they are a great value.

Sharp crisp lines.
This is what you want for a precision ruler, 1mm graduation on one side, 0.5mm on the other. Crisp, high contrast lines which are easy to read ( Using a short, long, long, short segmentation between the 5mm markers). The finish on the zero end is a bit rough and could do with a finer polish, but it doesn't impact the overall usability. Perfect for pencil or knife markings, without grates that cut the skin or scratch your workpiece ( the zero-end corners are sharp though) Highly recommended for discerning home-craftspeople and probably pros as well.
