Wind chimes always create a unique atmosphere. In Asia they are used, for example, in temples and pagodas but also hung up in gardens and houses. They give energy, bring luck and symbolize tranquillity, equilibrium and concentration. In addition, they are reputed to have the power to keep away bad energy, ill fortune and evil spirits. In Feng Shui they serve to stimulate life energy. The Zaphir wind chimes (which became famous as the Shanti chimes), which originated in the French Pyrenees, are among the most magical of wind chimes. They are lovingly handcrafted from high-quality materials and their body harbours eight tuned harmonic (pentatonic) cylindrical chimes made of brass and proportioned according to the golden ratio which are struck by the pendulum and its glass striker. There are 5 different mood tunings. On the exterior, the cylinder chimes are covered with paper oil-painted in a marble effect and wax-coated for protection. The marble effect varies, thus giving each Zaphir wind chimes a unique appearance. The Zaphir wind chimes can be used in two ways: (1) as a passive instrument brought into play by a draught or the wind, but also (2) by actively moving the instrument by hand. This means that the Zaphir is suitable as a beautiful room accessory and wind chimes but also allows it to be used in music and sound therapy, in (socio-) pedagogical institutions, in early musical education and as a musical instrument. For example, one can use it as a substitute for a sound bowl in meditation ceremonies. The Zaphir wind chimes are designed for indoor use. They can even be used outdoors if protected from rain. However, high levels of humidity can accelerate the corrosion of the bronze chimes and damage the cardboard body.
