Meet Patch Adams (Academy Award-winner Robin Williams), a doctor who doesn't look, act or think like any doctor you've met before. For Patch, humor is the best medicine, and he's willing to do just about anything to make his patients laugh—even if it means risking his own career. Based on a true story, Patch Adams combines side-splitting humor with an inspiring story that transcends the traditional comedy.Bonus Content: The Medicinal Value of Laughter Feature Commentary with Director Tom Shadyac Outtakes Theatrical Trailer Production Notes Cast and Filmmakers Review: Great Movie - This is a gun movie. Robin Williams is great in this movie. Review: family show - good values, funny and entertaining - I'm continually looking for movies to watch with the kids that exhibit the values I want to instill in them. This is a classic, so many probably know that it is about good values. What I really liked probably best of all was that he said he found happiness by helping others. This understanding is probably central to what I want to teach my kids, so I really appreciate that they put that in there. As a parent, what I really read reviews for is because I want to know is what ratings don't tell you: No nudity I think a little bit of swearing, but not significant. They mention kissing, two brief kisses, the only bed scene is of him fully clothed and her covered by a blanket, he assumably came in only to read a poem. She was fully clothed the entire time **SPOILER ALERT** The only thing that I would hesitate on, was that he did break some of the rules, but they had arguments and counter-arguments about that, so there is a lot of room to expand on that as a parent and talk about whether or not it is ok to break the rules and why or why not There wasn't violence shown on the screen (as far as I can remember), only the scene up to the violence, and then blacked out, and then explanation by the characters of what happened. It wasn't vulgar, but there was brief context appropriate talk of urine, and a scene of gynocologists walking through paper mache doors made to look like they were walking through a woman's legs into her. But, it was very fake, and made to look fake. There may have been some other vulgar talk that I'm not remembering, but I don't think it was too bad or I'd probably remember it. Overall, great movie. Funny and very entertaining.

The Biggest Disease is Indifference
As a second year medical student, and rather accelerated in age, (smiles) this film reminds me of some very rare and exceptional doctors who were able to achieve at a minimum what the fictional Patch Adams does. I have ascended to the ardor of Don Quioxte-ness in wanting to return to becoming a physician, and find that my own medicinal qualities are done in respect and honor of the soul living inside of a terminally ill body that just wishes to have one last go at life as portrayed in this film. Although Dr. Hunter Adams did not care for the portrait of the sceen version of him (for which i agree his perspective and viewpoint) the quality of the film reminds the medical community of the 1990's of a wake up call that never got answered. I realize that altruism in some respects is an inherent quality that is nurtured over time, but at this stage in my life, I find that I was simply waiting for the time to come when I would embark upon such a journey. The film is heartwarming, and the role of Hunter Adams was scripted and written for Robin Williams---who went through his natural aesthetics of what he would do as Dr. Adams. That is where I believe that a lot of where the screenplay took a risk due to the popularity and draw of the character actors involved for the screen version, and where most of the criticism is stemmed from. The direction and behind the scenes material is a must have. There is a lot of what helps the audience to understand the tragic mix in this melodrama that has a redemptive, bittersweet quality. Take a shot and put this in your keepers vault of media. It is an awesome film that goes to the core of who we really are: Human.

One of my favorites!
This is a compelling story of real-life physician Patch Adams. It covers his college years to graduation and the changes he made at the teaching hospital and in some of his fellow students' lives. He recruits friends to help him in the foundation of a free clinic and begins his new life. This movie is hilarious, poignant and interesting. It makes me happy.
