Ginger is a flowering plant whose rhizome or stem is widely used as a spice in many Indian and Asian cuisines. It is widely used as a home remedy for various ailments like toothache, cough and cold, tonsillitis respiratory and gastric disorders. Though it is grown in many areas across the globe, ginger is “among the earliest recorded spices to be cultivated and exported from southwest India”. India is the “largest producer of ginger in the world and holds the seventh position in ginger exports worldwide.
