Alder is popular in the Pacific North West, but in the Midwest we didn't enjoy it as well as Apple smoke for our Salmon. To each their own. Not getting again, just my taste.

Alder wood is great for smoking just about everything. Hard to find in store, so ordered on Amazon. No more local shopping.

It is alder chips. Awesome. I would buy elsewhere for bigger projects.

I recently went on a trip to Alaska and found out that they smoke salmon with alder. I've been smoking salmon for years with mesquite, cherry, and hickory so I wanted to give it a try. Unfortunately I couldn't find any alder at the stores in Northern California so I was happy to find it on Amazon. Nice mellow smoking flavor and fair price for the bag with shipping.
