Nice compass, but I'm no Boy Scout
Nice compass. Seems well made and with many features and uses. A little larger than I was expecting.It comes with NO diagrams or instructions at all. I'm no Boy Scout, just an avid hiker, so I don't know how to use it besides telling me where north is. It would be nice to have a little overview of what It can do, and how to do it. I got this to supplement my GPS when on long hikes off-trail, but I'll have to stick to my GPS, which gives much more information and is more useful. You may love this device, but I knocked off two stars for size and lack of any usage information.

Copy of a Silva Ranger
I have a decent compass collection, including the Silva Ranger and the Suunto MC-2G Global, which I use for wilderness and world travel. This compass is a knock-off of the Silva Ranger...accuracy to be determined. I didn't receive the survival whistle as advertised but received a button light instead. The lumen and the markings on the compass are good, but the clinometer is a little sluggish. Only time and use will reveal the accuracy of this compass, the details are in the needle and bearing...the secret to a quality compass. I will use this compass close to home and for short trips. For trekking in the Himalayas, it will be something else.

Works for the Scout
Our oldest is in Boy Scouts and we needed to get him kitted out for camping trips. The Scout shop is outrageously expensive for just about anything, so we checked amazon and lo and behold: it has everything we need! This compass does the trick. It's accurate, great for orienteering. Sturdy enough to be shoved in a pocket or backpack, though I hope he doesn't test its durability, and at an excellent price point!

Not the best quality.
I bought this to use for Search and Rescue. I had a difficult time using it during training because it must be held "just right" to work. In an emergency situation I would want something better.
