Q: can I hot swap a regular gateron or mx switches on it?

I had some red switches (not low profile) from an old keyboard, and was able to swap one out successfully. As long as the switches you want to use work with SMD LEDs, then you should be fine.

I really enjoy it for gaming, red switches are great for fps in my opinion

Q: Can you set it to turn off rgb after a certain amount of no activity?

Sorry, that function is not possible.

Q: Will the standard height tecware pbt keycaps fit on this without getting stuck, bottoming out too early, etc?

no it can only use low profile key caps
