Q: Would it be possible to reverse the cards and write on the tabs with a permanent marker?

Yes, you could write on the back of the tab. The plastic is somewhat translucent, so you would still be able to see the letter written on the other side, if it is back lighted. You could put a put a sticky label on the back and write on it, or use a label maker to print your own labels for the back.

X, Y, and Z were combined on one card. All other letters were on separate cards. There was also a separate for Mc.
