The tumbi is a small, lightweight folk instrument with just one string from the northwestern Indian state of Punjab. The high-pitched, single-string plucking instrument is associated with folk music of Punjab and presently very popular in Western Bhangra music. The tumbi, or toombi, is a traditional North Indian folk instrument from Punjab. It is sometimes called 'ektara' meaning 'one stringed'. The tumbi is played by holding it horizontally and strumming the string and can be played with two hands. Today it is popular in Western 'bhangra' music.
