The Flight: An absolutely heart-stopping psychological thriller with a twist you won't see coming

Implausible/disappointing
Intrigued by a newspaper review, which touted the book as having all the hall marks of a Hitchcock thriller/suspense, and having subsequently been seduced by the first couple of chapters I bought it, however it quickly lost pace and I would definitely not define the book as being in either the thriller or suspense category. I was not on the edge of my seat as stipulated by some reviewers (mainly newspapers/magazines).I ended up skimming large chunks of the book to get to the end, and think that the whole book could have been condensed into a middle of the road magazine fiction story, it was implausible and after the opening chapters quite boring. I realise that I am in the minority at the moment, but this book just didn't tick any of the boxes appropriate for a thriller/mystery or suspense. Not for me sorry :(

Disappointing
I'm not going to leave "Work in Progress" reviewer by him/her self alone on the shelf. I too was not taken by this read. It was highly recommended by a friend, but I found it boring and insipid. The story starts out well with an interesting idea and then just peters out. Jumping between the 2 story-tellers had me confused and the story in itself was not real nor suspenseful. Sure, I read it in a day too ... it was too hot to do anything else so I just plowed on for something to do. Normal times I would have tossed it aside. Not gripped. Not thrilled. Except for the heat outside not heart stopping. I had the premise to be so much more but just didn't get there. I would not recommend.

What can I say !!!!Read reviews as wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy this book.Very mixed reviews and as I am a fussy reader in the sense if the book doesn’t pull me in at the start I will most likely give up .I read for enjoyment not endurement.I decided to give it a go and how glad am I .This book is excellentWell written ....not too wordy or drawn out.I just couldn’t put it down. Will definitely be reading this authors books in future.

Suspenseful
I wouldn't tout this for Hitchcock fans (of which I am definitely not one!) but this book was a great read, full of suspense that had me turning the pages eager to find out what was next. Really enjoyed it, recommend.

Started well but tailed off.
This book started really well. Two women each with a reason to disappear have what seems to be a chance meeting at an airport and swap tickets, heading off to new lives. The basic idea was intriguing, and it was thrilling. Why annoyed me constantly was that when Claire's chapter ended on a cliffhanger, Eva's chapterwas next, delaying the outcome. Each time this happened, I would skip a couple of chapters to see how things panned out for Claire before returning to Eva. Also, I found the action interrupted by large sections of each character reminiscing about their past, so I skipped these sections too and found I was doing that a lot. Some of the chapters were noticeably padded out with characters waffling about their childhood memories. The ending was over too quick, there was no final showdown with the abusive husband, which I wanted to see. It was as if the author had reached her word count and thought that she must wrap things up. I did like the twist at the end with regards to Eva, although it was sad. My main gripe is that the last few pages seemed to be a platform for the author to have a go at men. All the main male characters in the story were portrayed as being bad, manipulative and conniving. Some of the female characters were too, but that was overlooked. The author seemed to suggest all of the problems women face today are down to men and she questions what we need them for. I don't read fiction books for a lecture like this. i'm female by the way! otherwise a good read but the ending is a bit rubbish.

Pretty good but not "Heart-stopping".
Like most books, this book didn't come up to its billing but it certainly was worth a read. I thought it started brilliantly but felt things began to become plodding as Eva's life story was put together and the action seemed to be in Claire's sitution. This is rather unfair as the book is primarily about two women and how their lives converge at a crucial point, but I found I didn't really enjoy Eva's story and her part, necessitating being pre-dated to the book's start point, almost seemed to me like holding the plot back from progressing with Claire's story. I felt the ending when it came did tie up the loose ends but didn't nearly do justice to Claire's whole situation and left me with a needless sense of sadness regarding Eva. My view doesn't seem to be shared with most reviewers but I would say the book is worth a read although I felt it could have been better.

Okay
An interesting thriller about 2 women who have reached a point where they feel the only option out of difficult situations is to start a new life - and all the heartache and problems that entails.I read through the book quite rapidly, wanting to now how it ends. I appreciated the twist at the start, that made the story interesting from the get go. With Claire living the life she does with her husband, it gets you quickly on her side and you want to see her succeed. Then, there's the whole thing about Eva - what is she running from? Why does she do what she does? The story then flips between Eva's past and Claire's future, which I can't say I particularly liked, because it didn't seem to make complete sense. Towards the end, it gets clearer why this was this way.The plot seems to be built decently, but I thought the thing with the tattooed guy was gratuitous. Still, it was just a small thing and the fact that the book is about women helping women and being strong is an added bonus to what was already a good read.

Loved this book
I couldn’t put this book down. I’ve not read a suspense novel for a while but this got me wanting to read more.
