Suitable replacement for Remcon RCL-1
All the closets in our house had Remcon RCL-1 closet relays in them when we moved in. However they were all 60 years old and had either failed or were in the act of failing. The CLC212 is a drop in replacement. I also like that most of the CLC212 sits *outside* the junction box whereas most of the RCL-1 sits *inside* the junction box. This difference makes it much easier to squeeze it in.Note that this is not a solid state device - it has a small relay in it. I would much prefer this be a solid state device since relays wear out - but this seems to be the only replacement on the market as far as I can tell. On the plus side you can open the CLC212 trivially with a screwdriver and it is not potted - so replacing failed parts should be doable.Only other complaint is that there is a noticeable delay from when you open the door to when light turns on. Maybe a half second or so. The original device was faster.

Great product for a bad price
This is a very high quality device but the price point was higher than I'd like. Not very economical if you need to install this in many locations but there is no arguing it's one of the best brands avail.

Makes my rooms shine with delight at my presence
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this concept.I love the device for its consistent perfect performance. It has survived 2 years now of daily use on a pantry in a house of 7 kids. I calculate that as 72 billion uses.It is now in use on multiple closets as well. The hate comes from finding EVERY closet without this installed now has the light left on 100% of the time. The laziness this has stoked is unsurpassed. So, I am adding more by:-Turn on the light-Shut off the breaker switch (validate that the light is out)-Remove the switch from the gang box-Drill a hole through the door frame into the gang box using a long 3/8 drill bit-Run the wires on the “NC NO Door Window Contact Magnetic Reed Switch Alarm 3W 10-25mm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F0BQGP2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_eGOlDb8PA2P43” to the box-Add a squirt of spray foam into the remaining hole space (optional -just seals the gang box better and holds the relay tighter into the door frame)-Install the relay (tight fit might require pushing wires back into the wall a little) — wiring diagrams online helped as did a meter (to find the proper relay wire) and basic knowledge of electrical wiring-Add a blank plate (you will get used to hitting the phantom switch on this plate for a while)-turn on the breaker switch-testOverall, install initially took about 45 minutes. After 3 installs, takes about 10 minutes. The delay to the switching is usually 1-2 seconds and can be a little annoying when you are in a rush, but the laziness it generates in return refills my impatience meter. The sound produced by the relay is almost exactly the sound my electric oven makes when the heating element clicks on.Kids still leave the door open and the light does not turn off until you close the door, but in my cases, this encourages them to deal with closure.enjoy

Works as expected for a Rube Goldberg project
This was used for a Rube Goldberg project where a moving magnet hits a reed switch to set off the siren alarm. The alarm sound activates a sound activated relay (contact closure) which then activates this relay to turn on a 110 Volt AC water pump creating a water flow that moves a boat in a water trough. The boat has a Swissmar Swiss Fire Gel that is lit. The boat moves to a point where it burns a string the activates the next motion. It served its purpose well.

Overall, it's fine.
We bought this to put in a pantry we were working on and wanted a light inside. We did not want a light switch outside the door or inside as it was a small pantry. Since we were working with the wiring, it was easy to add an extra outlet box in the ceiling. Instead of a light, we wired it to a single outlet in the top of the pantry as we wanted to use LED strip lighting down the inside of the door casing, to light up the entire pantry instead of just a bulb at the top. Most of these lighting strips come with a transformer and not designed to be wired directly. It does work as we planned, however the one thing I dont' like is it has a about a two second delay when you open the door, before the light comes on and about a two second day when you close it. It's not a big deal, it's just that I have seen others that come on as soon as the contacts on the reed switch activate and not sure why this one has the delays. I believe it also stated in the instructions that it would automatically turn the light off after 15 or 30 minutes, as no longer have then handy. We left the pantry door open for 45 minutes the other day and it never cut off.

Works as expected
Used this product to control a closet light via a door switch. Easy to install if you have appropriate electrical supply and box.
