I'm not even finished with this book, yet here I am providing a genuine review!
The media could not be loaded. I am so sad that my Husband & I are wrapping up this book, because IT'S SUCH AN AMAZING READ, that we could read this book everyday, forever. I don't want to spoil anything about this book, so I will make this review brief & to the point. Just hurry up & buy this book already lol. You won't be disappointed.Tata Rodriguez your aura has spilled all throughout this book, giving my Husband and I a perspicuous visualization of the wholesome Tata that you genuinely are, as well as a general perception of the Afro-Cuban Religion, Palo Kimbisa. And of course, this needs to be said; this is not a book on all of the in's & out's of Palo Kimbisa, and how you can practice this religion, as it's a closed & sacred religion of the sorts. Majority of Palo's teachings are passed down through oral traditions and it's important to always consult those within these religions (and respect rhe sacredness of Palo), before starting a journey down a path you're blissfully ignorant too. This book gives the reader a generalized idea of Palo Kimbisa by introducing all of the Nkisi and the stories of those Tata have encountered through life, with some great story telling, parables & lessons that can be learned in just about anyone's life, no matter your journey. This book is also quite fitting for just about any aged reader. My Husband and I both enjoyed the stories, TRUE STORIES at that, that were told, when discussing each person(s) experiences/dilemmas relating to each Nkisi. This is one of those books where once you start reading, it's hard to stop, then next thing you know, you're finished. I'm sure my Husband and I will not let this book settle & collect dust, once we finish, because it's definitely one of those books that you can pick up & read again and again, over and over.Even better, I've always been drawn more to books that have illustrations because it creates a profound & captivating experience all together. This book was written so well, and with the beautiful illustrations by "Soph," we were able to visualize each page as if it were a TV series, nonetheless, our day-to-day lives.Thank youuuuuu so much Tata Rodriguez for recommending this book to us. We have enjoyed this book greatly. We look forward to more in the future, as you gain more stories to share in the future. 10000 stars out of 10.

There are better sources
This book is simply not a book about Kimbisa so much as a book about the author's godfather's disputes with his godchildren. While it does, very briefly, describe some of the mpungu, it spends far more time on strange reality -show chapters involving a Judge Judy style courtroom where the author is the bailiff and then plaintiff and defendants are a palero and his godchildren. It is strange and not in a good way.I highly recommend that the seeker of information on Palo Kimbisa read "La Kimbisa Santo Cristo del Buen Viaje" by Lydia Cabrera and "El Monte" also by Cabrera instead.
