Decently heavy, but definitely seems like it will serve its purpose in case of a fire. Please do not plan on using this as a means of protection from theft, the lock is mediocre at best. However, it has a ton of capacity to protect important documents from being destroyed in a fire. It is nice that it holds file hangers as well.

The true test of this fireproof/waterproof safe won't happen until there's a fire, and let's hope that never happens! There are only two things that I'd like changed on this safe: 1. I wish it had a more sturdy locking mechanism. As is common in all safes in this category, the lock seems to be the weak point. 2. I wish that there was some way to anchor this unit to a floor or wall so that someone couldn't just pick it up and walk away with it. Lastly, and this is both a positive and a negative: This safe is quite heavy (nearly 50 pounds)! It's good in that it's very sturdy. It's bad because it may be difficult for a weaker or older to move (I'm neither of those things, so I'm quite glad that it's heavy and sturdy!).

The fire safe is very sturdy, quite heavy, and appears it should meet the specification for water and fire (impossible to know without actually testing, but it inspires confidence that it will do the job). This is not a professional safe, that would be difficult to break into. The lock and hinges are exposed and could defeated with simple tools (heavy hammer and pry bar), probably within couple minutes. But it is quite heavy and if you'd strap it in place as I did (in a back corner of a closet), it would not be that easy to break into. We just wanted something that would protect important documents and small personal items from fire and water damage, should that happen, and this appears to be perfect. It's about the cost of an annual bill for a bank safety deposit box. Wish I had done this years ago.

The case is absurdly heavy for its size, but that's probably a benefit - thieves may be less willing to haul it away! The plastic casing feels cheap, I wouldn't trust it to a drop or a top / side impact. The lock mechanism is mostly for show, it's very cheap, clunky, and difficult to work with. The interior of the safe appears to be high quality. Good seal with latches and appropriate fireproofing. Because of the fireproofing, you are required to air out the safe once a month. There isn't much to complain about here, it's a product of the material. I haven't personally verified it's resistance to water and fire, but it seems solid.

I ordered this on Amazon and it was delivered with shipping damage. Amazon processed a return at no cost to me other than my time to take it to a UPS Store. A replacement was sent and received a few days later. The replacement was in perfect condition and will be put to its intended use. This is a heavy safe due to the insulation materials used. I have no doubt the heat and time ratings tested by UL laboratories are accurate. The closure system, lock, and gasketing are adequate and it seems to me will meet heat exposure and the 24 hour submersion specifications. It is interesting that the recommendation is to open the safe very two weeks to air out so that a mildew smell is avoided. This seems like a lot of maintenance but it shows that the Honeywell understands that if the documents are valuable enough to protect from fire and flood that mildew would be a problem too. I will use a desiccant inside the safe and open less often. If that works then it won't go on my things to do list to open the safe and air it out every two weeks. In any event it a well designed product for fire and flooding protection but not so much for theft. The lock is weak and simply taking the whole safe is an option for someone wanting to steal ones valuable documents. So put it someplace or take steps to avoid theft of the entire box.

The keys would only go in the lock about 1/4 inch. BOTH keys. Obviously a problem with the lock. I called Honeywell customer service and had to leave a message. No one called me back. I called again a few days later and was told to spray some WD-40 on the keys and try again. The keys again did not go into the lock. I was then told to hold on while I was connected to a safe technician. The original person came back on the line and said the technician told her to tell me to just return the safe. Great news. I get to pack this heavy safe back up, somehow wrangle it out of my house and into my car, haul it to UPS, wrangle it into the UPS store and give it back. Thanks Honeywell for delivering a defective product. I would give it ZERO stars for the product and ZERO stars for customer service if I could.

Bought to go with the Honeywell safe. Glad I bought it as the safe is tucked in a corner and is heavy, this makes wheeling it out for access a breeze.

After looking at lots of different options from Fire Safe Boxes to Fire Safes, I settled on this as a compromise as it had good reviews, including some YouTube videos of people putting it in fire and water. It is well made and quite heavy. Fire and water proof (within limits) which is better than some. My only small gripe is that you can't lay A4 paper flat in the bottom of it. It comes with some hanging files and you can stand piles of A4 paper on the long edge, but it would have been so much better if you could have laid A4 flat in the bottom. The sides slope slightly and so you could lay A4 flat at the top and to about a third/half of the way down, just not in the bottom. I can fit everything I wanted to in it, so it's not a show stopper, but it would have been nice if they'd just made it that little bit bigger at the bottom to take A4 flat.

Arrived next day and thankfully I was in to accept it. Packaging was damaged in various places, but chest seems fine. It is also just packaged in it's box, so everyone will know what you got delivered to you. Seems to fit product specs given. Will have to get a filing system that fits though, as A4 just about fits in, but not a folder or envelope. Came with a packet of silica. Should probably follow the manufacturer's warning to air it out every week to prevent moisture and mold build up. Overall, very pleased with the information provided on Amazon and the product so far, although I wish they did this size in the higher proofing specs. 40kg of the largest chest would just be too heavy for me to handle. Let's hope it will never have to be put to the test for its fire- and waterproof qualities.

Impressed by the sturdiness of this little safe. Well built, looks like it would be waterproof, as it is well sealed. Great for storing documents like wills etc. Fits standard suspension files. Keeps everything organized.
