Mishmash kids book.
I wanted to like this book. I wanted to enjoy the heck out of the antics of a kid that fought off space pirates. Instead I got a bland empty book about a dimwitted 12 year old I could have been told was 7 and believed it that barely fended off halfwit, redneck, space morons that act like space chimps. The number of plot holes that have to be in place for this story to work are Legion.1. Why is there only one crew?2. Why is there no automated security?3. Why is there a hidden planet?4. Why is this planet so close at hand?5. How did the information on flight specifics reach the pirates6. Why do the pirates not just fly to the ship instead of being brought there. There are too many excuses and not enough substance.

Home Alone in Space
I got this for my nephew for Christmas, and just had to read it before wrapping. Lots of fun! I can't wait to see what my nephew thinks of it.

Family Loved It
Fun and fast moving story. We listened to it on our car trip, and my 7-year-old not only loved it but now occasionally requests to have it play on the stereo when we are at home instead of music. Highly recommended.

My kids devoured this book
I bought the paperback after hearing about the story on Writing Excuses. My two boys are ages 8 and 10, and they read constantly but are very much entrenched in certain series, and it is difficult to get them to read outside their usuals (trust me, I try). I gave this to them and they both sort of shrugged at it and I thought it was a no go.But THEN! My 8-yo told me the next morning that he started it before bed and stayed up (way too late, but pick your battles, ya know?) to finish it because it was so good. He read some bits to his brother in the car on the way to school, and by the next day, he’d read it too. They made me get the next one on Amazon and I’m sure we’ll order the third when a paperback version is released. So happy with this! It’s funny and exciting and altogether a great intro to sci-fi. My younger boy is very into space and science, so I’m glad he found a series that taps into those interests (and isn’t a graphic novel, no offense to graphic novels, but variety is key).

Family Friendly Reading Adventure
Zero G reveals its strengths through a simple, yet exciting plot that is sure to keep a young audience riveted. With educational undertones, Zero engages in numerous conversations with Sancho, the Navigational AI, who informs Zero and the reader about topics vital to the plot. With definitions of speed, acceleration, and the effects of zero gravity, Wells keeps the information easy to digest without slowing down the flow of the story.Wells also includes quite a bit of humor and keeps the action violence to an appropriate level for middle schoolers. Trust me, no aliens or space pirates were severely injured in the writing of this book, although some of them may think twice about what they eat for their next meal.I think the only thing that was somewhat annoying in the story was the amount of arguing between Zero and his two older brothers. As a mom, I found it got on my nerves, but young readers may find it relatable. They may even take Zero’s side against the evil older siblings. Still, the book centers around Zero and we do not see the brothers again after their stasis is initiated. The book was professionally edited and only one or two minor typos made it into the final draft. With short chapters and 150 pages, I recommend this book to 8-14 year-olds or families looking for a fun read-aloud adventure.I received a review copy through OnlineBookClub. My opinions are my own.

Fun
This was a fun book. Definitely made for younger kids, but still a light, entertaining read for an adult or older kid. They call it "Home Alone in Space" and that's really an accurate description. Almost too accurate, but it is its own unique thing as well. I recommend it!
