Fussy install but seems like a good lock. Read my review for tips.
Just installed mine today, so I can’t give an in-depth review but I’ll weigh in on installation.I’ve done many, many locks over the years and this was one of the more difficult ones I’ve done due to changes to instructions and misalignment of parts. The lock is straightforward and at first glance seems to be an easy install, but I had to adjust and realign for every screw. Don’t tighten any screws until everything is aligned and every screw has been started. I ended up not installing one of the alignment pins so that I could shift the assembly around and I could align the screw holes. Also, make sure the doorframe is drilled deeply enough for the bolt to open fully or it won’t work. Make sure it can lock and unlock with no pressure on the strike plate.Bad instructions: The instructions are well-drawn and easy to follow... except that they have apparently made modifications to the lock since they were written and the electronics plug did not need the adapter that the instructions say to install. I was a bit confused because they include two switches in the box with no mention of them in the instructions. I assume they are in case you have to replace them, which concerns me that there may be a known problem. The electronics instructions apparently don’t match up to their app; which is glitchy and not well-designed. Don’t bother following their electronics instructions. Use your phone to scan the QR code on the interior portion of the lock. HomeKit will find it in seconds for setup. I spent 5 minutes trying to get their app to work and then just quit and scanned the code. After you install it in HomeKit it will show up in their app. When you have it working gently peel off the code and stick it on the inside of the battery cover. That’s where it should have been in the first place so you’ll have it for any other setup in the future.Functionality seems great so far. Keypad is very easy to wake and use. I have no problems with getting Siri to control it. I like getting notifications when it locks and unlocks. Gotta say, locking and unlocking with my watch is cool. In the VOCOlinc app you’re given the option to make it work with Alexa, but since I couldn’t get the app to connect I couldn’t try it.

Great lock for a Homekit house!
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Admittedly, I am a fan of Vocolinc products, mostly because of the great experiences I have had with prior products. The upgraded version of the T-Guard lock continues to meet expectations and follows the standard set by previous VOCOlinc products. The Satin Nickel finish of the T-Guard is clean and looks great alongside my existing hardware. Installation was super simple, with easy to follow instructions. In my old house, I had the previous version of the T-Guard so I was already familiar with the installation process. That said, it took me less than 10 minutes to install and have the lock active and connected to my network. Using the VOCOlinc app you can assign family members personal entry codes and track activity. There is an audible beep (pretty loud) that can easily be heard through the house when the door is unlocked or locked. In bright sunlight, it's a little difficult to see the keypad numbers illuminated, but the audible chirp when the keypad is active and buttons pushed, helps overcome that minor challenge. Overall, great lock for a house committed to Homekit as their smart home platform.

WOW! I was not expecting it to be this good!
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. In the video, you see the lock obviously not installed on a door, my door won't arrive for some time, but I wanted to make sure the product wasn't defective, so that is why the lock is assembled in the way that it is. It still worked great! If I'm being frank, I wasn't expecting all the features that this had for a HomeKit compatible smart lock at THIS price point. I'm not knocking VOCOlinc or their prices, I just assumed that for it being on the more budget friendly end of the spectrum that there would be a few features lacking... I was pleasantly surprised. The touchscreen for the pin code entry is really responsive (and I still have the protective cover on mine). I LOVE that I can set individual passcodes, and I can create restrictions on when those codes can / can't be used. For example: Let's say you have a babysitter that comes every Wednesday from 8 am to 6 pm, you can provide the babysitter with a passcode that will ONLY work on Wednesday, for that designated time frame. You can set an auto lock (a designated time period after the door has been unlocked and it will automatically lock again). I think my favorite feature would be the data logging. Within the VOCOlinc app, you can see WHO used their code to unlock the device and it tells you by date and time. It even tells you if you unlocked it with the key, or even with HomeKit (albeit if you use HomeKit it just says "Bluetooth", so I was able to deduce that bluetooth refers to a HomeKit unlock instance). The motor is really quiet too! At least as far as smart locks go, I've hear locks that were WAY louder than this one. It's totally an acceptable level of noise. I obviously can't comment on battery life as I've only had the product for a few weeks now, but it still says 100% with all the tinkering I've been doing, so I hope the battery lasts a few months before needing to be replaced. They give you two traditional keys to use as well, so that's nice that they give you options. The keys go into the tumbler fairly smoothly so that's cool! The unit itself feels really premium.Which would lead me to my criticisms of the product. I wish it said "HomeKit" instead of "Bluetooth", I know it's nitpicky, but it's one of those "details" that would be nice. I also wish they didn't have the HomeKit code on the product above the manual internal lock (that's why you see the green tape, I was covering the code). I wish they put the sticker on the inside of the battery cover so I wouldn't have to remove the code for aesthetic purposes. They do give you a manual that has the code on it there as well, but yeah. I wish the code sticker was on the inside of the battery cover.I'm so excited for the product. Thank you VOCOlinc.
